Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We're down to the best of the best

Had a useless 1x1 meeting this week with my inept AF manager. Highlight of the discussion was when, after I brought up again how unfortunate/unsustainable/problematic/etc. it was that we'd lost so many people to attrition and/or forced outs as of late, this mo--n had the response to retort with a positive comment about how we're now down to "only the best of the best".

I about fell out of the chair. Our group is staffed with almost nobody now, and the majority of the few still here are just too old/close to retirement age to jump ship. Best of the Best. What a joke. Fun talking point though. Any of you lower-level managers seeing this being floated as a talking point?

Every time I scroll past this thread and I see the phrase "The best of the best" I laugh, I do not know what is worse, however, that the manager who said it BELIEVES it, or that he knows it is bullsquirt and is lying through his teeth.

All I can say it that I am glad I didn't have to hear that first hand.

Sorry, OP.

"OP, I guess it just sux2bu@oracle.com"

OP here. LOL to whoever the sux2bu@oracle.com comment guy is. Always a useless addition to the thread, but somehow always makes me smile.

A total sh-t show. LE selling out personal info for billions in annual revenue while overseeing the decimation of his company so that he can rebrand to rolling the dice with acquisitions, real estate investments & sales. Like his buddy, Trump, it’s all PR…better to be hated than not be mentioned. Maybe he’ll have a reality show, Flipping People For Profit

Oracle has been losing top technical talent for many years, commonly known to us all as "brain drain". And while I am sure that there is still top talent still at O, I know for a fact there are also still a lot of bozos there as well.

For a long time I was hesitant to leave Oracle, maybe it was just inertia or possibly also a concern about the unkown away from a familiar company, but looking back I am so glad that I left when I did. My career has skyrocketed post-Oracle, I get generous bonuses and pay raises, but most importantly, I feel valued as an employee. Seldom at Oracle did I ever feel truly valued by the managers or directors I worked under.

I agree they are the laughingstock of IT but so much brainpower in certain areas of Support and Development have left because Oracle is a slow moving dinosaur.

The ones they DO have left they should really be going out of their way to keep. I know of so, so many new developers and support people that know nothing and never will. Oracle just put a warm body (sometimes) in the departed person’s place and thought that was just fine. Nope. Crosstraining doesn’t work either. Bottom line is the expertise is leaving and the customer and Oracle’s stock price are the ultimate losers.

For those of you who joined Oracle in the last 5 years, find a better job right now. The longer you stay at Oracle the harder it will be to get another job, because your work experience will have been too tied into Oracle technology. Those who have been at Oracle for 20 years or more have completely screwed themselves, as NO ONE will hire someone who has no other technical skills besides 2+ decades of Oracle

So those un-RIFd Oracle employees who that one manager claimed are the “best of the best” are actually the laughing stocks of IT.

Or total fakes. When those older folks do retire, you are really doing to feel it.

I think everybody now is just laughing internally when asked to do anything. I’ve personally taken the tact of turning that around with “doing my best”. It is really a potent phase when you say it, in no way, mean it. Try it.

It is a literal shitstack what they pile on every day. I haven’t seen a blood red cent of pay increase in 4 years. There is no motivation to do anything more than sign on and sign off each day.

It would take a 20% raise for me to even think about caring again.
