The pandemic situation seems to be improving and from the looks of it, most of the country will start slowly reopening. I don't expect it to be an instant thing, it will probably take weeks for everything to be up and running again. So where do we fit in there? When can we expect Sabre to start calling us back?

“ when people start getting on airplanes.”
Even that is sadly too optimistic.
Air travel is not going to return to normal, but even if it were, at this point management is far too invested in lay offs and cost cutting to bring back furloughed employees.

Lol you said "making smart strategic decisions". When has that actually happened in the last four years ?
SM has architected more failures in his time than any other CEO in Sabre's past. He has completely destroyed the core of the company and alienated top skilled leadership to jump to the competition.
+ Greg Webb - Travelport ceo
+ Hugh Jones - Travelport board
+ John C. Elieson Travelport COO
None of the C, EVP, SVP talent left at Sabre is any good at all. Just watch 6-12months from now Travelport will start to make major moves into Sabre's client base. - that leadership team actually knows what its doing !!!
Im furloughed and theres no way your going to get me to sign a non-compete for any amount of cash.
Sabre is a loser of a company in a downward free fall. Do something special and good for yourself and leave. You wont regret it.

Ignoramus. Not even worth it.
@1xmo+14JKJTFi "This country was built by immigrants."
LEGAL immigrants! Not visitors, and that was how many years ago? Likely your parents weren't even born. Americans built America.
Sabre took an awful gamble on furloughing 1/3 of the company with very little due diligence in its selection. I would imagine the unforeseen gaps in the next 90 days are going to be seriously hard to pivot successfully. It should be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm glad I took severance so i dont have to watch another SM mess splatter all over the road. Seriously that guy is an absolute trainwreck.
The staff members that Sabre has yet to let go are a superset of those that will be kept on.
The Pandemic situation is hardly really improving, unless you think a reduction from exponential growth to mere linear growth is an improvement. That is an improvement but it's an improvement only of the rate of growth not of the total active cases.
Since the active cases are not actually going down yet and since we are now reducing the restrictions, you can guarantee that we will be back to exponential growth again within just a few weeks. Then we will be in round 2 of the quarantine. Hopefully next time it will be followed a lot more rigorously like it was in other countries who managed to get the virus spread under control.
South Korea had just a handful of new cases yesterday when the US had almost 30k. The US has had about 30k new cases every day for about the past month. Both countries had their first cases on the same day but South Korea's active cases started to reduce around March 12th while the US active cases just continue to increase at a steady rate of about 30k per day. South Korea has beaten it. The US can beat it too, but only if we take it seriously and it is certainly not being taken seriously yet.
I bet
almost everyone will be called back.
Then they will count heads (like they do in prison !!).
Then they will asses their needs.
Then they will do another RIF. (probably post 30 days after return).
- and yes visa holders will be a part of that.
who stays and who goes. way to hard to tell, lets see the attrition numbers from the furlough peeps that get other jobs (i expect 40 percent +|- 5 percent.
- i think i lot more thought will go into this next RIF than has gone into previous movements.
Not true about all H-1B holders has masters degrees and qualified. In our group 3 H-1b visa holders don’t have masters. They joined 1-2 years back and they have no experience in our domain. People with domain knowledge and technically superior employee have been furloughed just to keep those unexperienced H-1B visa holders. We not qualification they have they can oil the managers and yes boss kind of people.
To the person with out visa knowledge. It would be good if you can take the time to educate yourself on the topic you are so passionately posting about. As others have pointed out most of these h1b visa holders have graduated from US colleagues in computer science or related field. So yes they would be more qualified than the average citizen. This country was built by immigrants. Look at the ceos of the major companies like Google and Microsoft. Which country do you think they came from. America is great because it is a country of opportunity. Find yours and stop blaming others.s
Your not going to be called back. This is a great opportunity for the company to make some smart strategic decisions. Stop spending any money on old technology. Spend money on moving all development offshore and use the google platform. Remember, people have learnt that they actually don’t need to travel to do buisness and air travel will NEVER be the same again.
Everyone is dreaming if they think they are going to call us back. I know many that will be relaxing during this period and are hoping to be called back. There may be a handful, but most will not. It's going to take 18-36 months for them to get travel back on their feet. Sabre will have lost too much money and need to make up their losses. If they call back any, it will be some in MVD or Poland. I am not even sure if Sabre will survive as a company. They may have to claim chapter 11 and possibly sell.
In my direct group, there are no people here on visas. All Americans on our US based team.
Sabre is so much more than the company discussed by all the people on here. There are whole divisions that are 100% American and can never be outsourced.
The only way things will get anywhere close to normal within "weeks" is if the US does a "Sweden" and just lets everyone get infected, and 2% die (that's 7 million). Opening businesses up when new cases are still peaking should get everyone infected pretty quickly. That "normal" will only be US domestic though because even then it will take more like 18 months for international to pick back up. At least most of the Sabre business is US domestic though. That should be better for Sabre than Amadeus. Maybe that is why the Sabre stock is surging.
When they call..
They are Not going to call you back because 452 employees with visa have priority.
452 employees with H1B visa with an average salary of 134,000 dlls and 74 green cards are before you even if you have better skills.

Our managers feel sorry for them but they do Not feel sorry for you.
Capacity needs to be where it used to be.
People need to start travelling.
Neither of the above will be accomplished anytime soon. Go figure.
Added complexity - social distancing on planes = less saleable capacity = higher fares = limited demand AND fewer flights as more routes become unprofitable to operate
the idea that its going to 'take weeks for everything to be up and running again' is naive in the extreme. How long is it going to take before we have a fully functioning airline network? Maybe 18-24 months. I wish you all well and hope we are all back at work as promised, but I have some serious doubts
Most of us will never be called back.
Some of us could possibly be called back for a short while.
This is only be called a furlough not a lay-off so that people will cooperate with turning over their work.
Christmas, maybe...
Man, the furlough didn't even start yet...
