@3pnh Nobody forced any of these guys to have kids, get divorced, overspend on McMansions in neighborhoods prone to flooding, or send their underachieving children to expensive private Christian schools.

If you’re 55+ and you’re still working because you need the money, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Merry Christmas

@3qpa re: employee engagement “The best way to deal with this situation is to address matters currently at the top of employees' minds. No, I'm not talking about sending out yet another employee engagement survey, where you ask people how they're feeling and then do nothing with this information.”
Hahahaha!💀 Yeah, management could stand to read and heed. This place is trash.

Anyone can retire.
Just plan and don't ve so greedy. Cut you spending pay off your debts. Create a budget and stick to it. You don't need 200k a year to live on. You can do it for 50k. You will have to stay hone, eat at home and not travel but you can do it. Your rotten kids can get loans for some of their college. Debt is good for the soul as it builds responsibility. So don't be afraid. I know a retiree that eats cereal fir dinner and sandwiches for lunch. He watches TV ,fishes at the gulf and relaxes. He and the wife take walks and travel around the US. Best of all he doesn't have to put up with the exxon sh-t anymore. Exxon is just one example as it could be any company. So don't worry you will have enough money. Just live according to your new income.

This would be a good read for the leaders at exxon. I don't think they will do anything because they keep getting more sheep to sla-ghter. It's a good read for the employees though.

Whoever thinks he'll be able to retire at 55 is totally delusional. In the past you could do this because O&G was generous with its employees. But this is true no more. He-l, it hasn't been true for the last ten years. Housing costs in Houston are very high, college costs in the USA are very very high, if you get a divorce the he-l with half of your stuff, and so on. Going forward you won't be able to retire at 55. So stop criticizing the 55 guys if they can't retire at 55. That's not the new reality. And young people won't be able to retire at 55 unless you remain SINGLE.

I meant children that still need supporting. Like under 18 years old still being supported by mom and dad. I meant any other financial burden or debts that would keep you from retiring at 55.

Some people have to stay past 55. It may be due to young children or they did not save enough to retire early. If you have to stay god be with you. If you need to play their game and work like a dog for no respect, raises, or recognition so be it. i don't blame you or have any ill will towards you. I have empathy for you as you are stuck in a hopeless endeavor. I don't need any more than 55. I don't think I could take another fixed kangaroo court ranking session. So no need for an age discrimination lawsuit. Exxon would not dare risk a termination of an employee in the NRE age. So those who can leave at 55 be happy and leave when you have had enough fun sh it(not). Those who have to continue to work in this toxic cesspool I wish you luck. You will notice those who are of the age to retire are not bothered by the disfunction as we are to busy planning retirement.

@1xho Then when you catch a PIP you’ll be on here complaining about age discrimination.

Stay mad.

I'm off very early in 25, had enough of being told I'm NI and nil payrise. Others are perfectly willing to employ me.

I can’t quit now because I'm NRE, however I have no plans breaking my back covering for all the quitters. When they leave, they can take their workload with them as I’ll be leaning into my new role as a ‘strategically underperforming’ employee.

Count me in. I have a 100% remote role starting in January that requires U.S. Citizenship, so not only am I going to be WFH, but I’m getting a decent pay bump and my job isn’t going to Bangalore.

My plan is to straight up ghost my current employer. No call, no show, no explanation. Get fvcked.
