I have witnessed where people who do nothing, don't even show up for work most of the time are ranked higher than others who are producing results and are the ones called when there is a problem to solve and solve the problem are ranked lower and frequently PIP'd. The rankings are not based on added value to the company, not random, but based on something that is supposed to be illegal in the U.S. and other countries. Looks like an activist shareholder would sue since Exxon is not acting in the best interests of the shareholders. DW and company aren't running their own business, they are working for the shareholders and are obligated to maximize shareholder value. What's going on? Anyone else seeing this?

@OP, the "certain people" you are referring to are hiding under their bosses desks (ahem) or employees that are now self-identifying as a Black Chinese Handicapped Woman and changing their name to Shaniqua Wong, which seems to be working (the latter!) for me.
$20 says the OP doesn’t even work for Exxon.
I’ll wage another $20 that they were PIPed out and are still hung up on the company. This probably describes the majority of posters here.
OP - old news
Yes , I strongly agree, your rank tends to drop as you get older; and, I am direct proof of that. There is my story:
My rank was pretty good until I reached 59 years old, (upstream engineer). But, the time I reached 65 years my rank had drop to the point that I knew I needed to retire even though I was still having a fun ....40 years in the oil field was enough for me!
Anyway, by the time I retired I had way more 401K money than I would ever spend in my life time. But, the great thing was that the EM retirement was good enough that I would never need to draw down my 401K Roth 401K, except of course for big items like buying another car, a cool adventure trip of a life time, buying fine art, or a another vacation home (we already way one vaca home, why do we need another, that seems very nuts to me ...eeerrr!!!))
So, anyway I strongly agree!!!!
Carry on.
You tell me. Long time ago, almost the entire Delaware Facilities team was NSE , PIP , you named., but the manger got a value position in Canada. You have to add the help from the Midland mediocre manager to push the situation until all Delaware team was dismiss.
Yes, all good until 50, then top quintile to bottom quintile in 1 cycle. You do the math.
Working for EM is like living in the Matrix. Once you understand and make peace with it you can choose to take the red pill or the blue pill.
Me, I've had a couple decorated sponsors since day 1.
Not the only way to stick with it, but if you want to be retired-in-place for your last 10 years here - it's a good method.
Sometimes you think you're good and you're not. Then you get fired and stay in denial.

their behavior is definitely not in alignment with what they preach
this has been happening for decades and its not going to change
Yep. That was me. Ran circles around everyone on my team. Hit 50 and bam.
Not sure where you’ve been this is old news. Sponsorship , projecting and the politics will get worse. Have a plan and go if you can’t get the politics on your side.
