Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Mandatory extra hours

Some colleagues think that terminating an employee who refused to work overtime is illegal, but I'm not sure about that. I wouldn't want to refuse to work the mandated overtime because I still need this job and I'm trying to keep it until I get a better opportunity, but I'm very tired. I feel drained. How much overtime do you work?

I want to dedicate 80 hours a week for 10 years in the name of capitalist grind. Where do I sign up? Also throw in that extra job so I don’t get a day off.

I’m sure it takes them awhile to grease up any ideas that isn’t giving themselves more money.

Based on employee turnover I guess they aren’t very good at enslaving anyone. Good luck with your eggs- maybe they will hatch and you will be promoted to hen.

I've worked two jobs while I worked at SF for the first 10 years I was there. 80+ hours a week was not uncommon. I don't regret it a bit. I understood in my own life that how much I would forgo today would make a better life for us. Today, most don't understand that nor do they want or have the ability to see that. They say in finance: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. If you do, it's easier for predators to steal your eggs. Not only that but it is easier for them to control you. Always remember, you are free and to never allow them to enslave you because that is their narrative and intent.

I don’t understand why some of you don’t go find another job if the overtime is too much.

Seriously, why stay in a position you hate working long hours you hate?

I’ve been in claims for almost 4 years. I don’t love nor hate my job. However, I do love the money and I see this as a step towards something else especially as it relates to my financial goals.

Additionally, things could be a lot worse. If you doubt me go scroll the Allstate board. People over there are being laid off left and right. Their positions are being outsourced. These are people who are going to find themselves licking the unemployment line in 2023 when the economy is said to be much worse than now.

Either count your blessings or move on to something else somewhere else.

Mental illness. Again, quick to the trigger. Shout down and come to a false conclusion. Walk lightly and carry a big stick partner.

The executive gave himself a 15,000.00 per hour bonus. A good leader is with his team. When was and how many times in the past year has any of the line workers seen or even talked to executive? Infantile I think not! Infantile is pulling a Joe running the organization in the basement.

Yes, infantile because how in the he-l would you know how much an executive works? Presuming anything you don’t know is the definition of infantile.

Make executive work more overtime till they bring balance back to the workforce instead of living in a Disney world.😂

It is not illegal for an employer to require overtime. It is also not illegal to terminate employees that refuses to work overtime. Tons of case law that support both positions.

It is not illegal. Look at the medical field or similar organizations.
