If you have any skillset or are up to speed on modern technology stacks easily $150k+. The fact you work at ExxonMobil indicates you likely have neither.

Lol 130k to fu-k up peoples computers with the companies software. Problem is you guys do what you’re told. Then cause loss of productivity. I can easily fix what you fu--s do but I’m limited by the administrator sh-t you put on everything. I’m 155,300 as an ops supervisor with a high school education and get shift diff and holiday pay. We are talking 165 ish CL24. But you d-mbasses have ideas you won’t work holidays or weekends. STFU and get paid less. You’re a loser and provide sh-t. Literally all of your updates are sh-t. Move on.

Your PHD will not help your base pay unless your ranking and performance improve because you are able to do more quantity ad quality work relative to others. Many Harvard and Stanford MBAs make less than non-elite school peers because they just do not do the quality/quantity of work. Many Bachelor degrees can out perform many with graduate degrees. Having academic knowledge does not guarantee you will rank well. Rule of thumb, after 2 years you hire, no one cares what school you went to or how many degrees you have. You must PERFORM and DELIEVER

If you're EMIT, you are overpaid.
Non-essential US hire. wow.

Easiest way to find out

Start applying jobs in corporate IT and tech.

If you can find a higher pay job, you are underpaid.

If you can't, you are overpaid or well paid at the moment. Train yourself and go into tech or fintech for more $

Well, your EMIT job can probably be done in Brazil, Argentina, Hungary, or India for 25% of the cost. So I think you are overpaid.

Dude, you are making a six-figure salary. If you don't like what you make then go elsewhere. Try Wall Street. Maybe you will like that. But, stop complaining. If you don't like it then do something about.

“How underpaid am I?”

Very.

Entry level base salaries in tech and finance exceed $180k year. If you’re still making $130k/year with 10 years of experience in any industry, something is wrong, unless your annual bonus is at least 100% of your annual base salary.

@1wvo+1f81VACB Is the $400k counting bonus and RSU? How does the pay structure split between salary, bonus, etc at Amazon?

How much does a CL26/27 make these days?

For reference, when i had left I had just became a CL24 with 3yoe. I had a MS in information systems so I started at CL23 instead of 22 like most new hires. As a 24 I was making $130k. So you should be making a little more since some of our pay is age based. But nothing drastic. Maybe $140k? As you have a grad degree you’d have started at 23, gotten an automatic promo to 24 after 2 years. So hypothetically sitting at 24 for 8 years would be bad. You’d be expected to get another promo in 3-5 years (so hypothetically to CL25 for you) and be working towards moving to CL26. With CL26/27 being the max many people reach. Obviously some make it much higher, but you’re supposed to be a 26/27 most of your career for the average employee.

For reference though, I left for Amazon and make $275k (still living in Houston) with the potential to be at $400k by the end of the year. Forget the PhD and study a bit to get into a top company and that’ll do wonders for your compensation. Much better than a PhD would do.

Post from TheLayoff.com

I have been in O&G the whole time since school and did not pay attention to anything else. As a matter of fact, I only knew about this forum and started looking into tech because of my XOM colleagues who have left recently. I'm not special. My coworkers from my previous company were the same. We were comfortable with what we were doing and didn't look into other industries. I wouldn't at XOM either if it wasn't because of the attrition madness.

Salary okay from EM standards..on the low side though. CL 25 makes more sense

OP here
So my question is not about whether it's right for CL24 but is it right for that level of experience? I have known people at XOM with 6-7 years who joined as new hires and were in CL25 with significantly higher salary than me.

If you have a CS degree, why would you settle for 130k from xom when anyone with a pulse and can code is getting 200k min almost anywhere

You are pretty much where I’d expect a CL24 in that age bracket to be, but depending on what you actually do it’s certainly possible that you could be underpaid

What's a fair compensation for someone who was hired after school and have had about the same amount of experience & education?

OP here
I mean in comparison to others at XOM. I know I'm underpaid vastly compared to tech but more interested in learning about how it is within XOM as I was told this was a great offer by HR and the hiring manager.

Forgot to mention initially: M.S. from top 30 CS program. Phd in progress
