Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Leadership is (perhaps intentionally) cutting 3M out of existence

Discipline on FTE? If global headcount doesn’t go down by the same rate as cuts, it means they are rehiring elsewhere (cheaper) for SG&A cuts. This means good people that know stuff, do things, and are close to the products and customers have their lives changed for a metric to help keep ‘leadership’ in their roles. Real FTE discipline is targeting those who don’t add value to a product, process, customer, etc. 3M does not target to that level, and they get what they pay for. Replace knowledge and skill with cheap and the company loses its ability to analyze and execute (see the last 5-10 years for examples. As usual, 3M will simply cut the productive and ensure further decline and future cuts. Leadership is (perhaps intentionally) cutting 3M out of existence.

This pretty much sums it up. Just read it on another thread ( @1btr+1riLLk4h ) , putting it up for visibility.

Cutting your best and the brightest to replace them with cheaper outsourcing serves a short term goal but is a recipe for a slow death. Losing morale, trust and knowledge base is gonna sink this ship!

Anybody know how many jobs have been shipped off to the GSCs since they opened?

You will see more job eliminations, continued outsourcing of nearly everything and a rapid reduction of global rooftops post spin. What’s actually happening is grotesque, think Enron.

They keep saying 3M is "lean" Mike Roman, used the term focused and energized. Yet we still have the same leadership structure at the top and throughout 3M Parent even with the Spin Off. If anything they have added a lot of Salary's and Head count in leadership in Peter Gibbons group. It is well past time for a restructuring in senior leadership at the Division and corporate levels. The same "failed" leaders never take a cut. So much for focused and energized.
