Hence why I even brought up H1bs.

It's not about whether SF or ATL is better. It's about a dying company that has terrible management.

All these fights over SF vs ATL... the main thing is you're working for a company that's slowly dying. Little by little, your quality of life at work will be taken away until one day you don't have a job.

Wherever you live, start looking for another job while you still a job.

I'm not thinking about moving to GA either. Engineering salaries might be good for other companies, but not what Macy's is offering. For what it's worth (and only because someone here mentioned crime, not because I'm worried), violent crime is higher in Atlanta, according to compare cities data. Plus how can I live somewhere that doesn't have an ocean AND a bay?! I truly love San Francisco!

@1vyo+13k5jyZE
b—s—, Atlanta will pay EASILY above 6 figures. Literally a TOP 5 CS/Engineering school is in Atlanta and Atlanta is SUPER progressive, so you have no idea what you're talking about. H1Bs aren't meant to BUILD A LIFE with. They are TEMPORARY work. These people RETURN after they can't find work. Plus you don't seem to understand how this works...

@1xbj+13k5jyZE
I left SF last year, too many SJWs who can't seem to focus on what the ACTUAL product is and reasons why you have a job in the first place. Too much time celebrating b—s— and not enough time WORKING

@1iwp+13k5jyZE
Georgia, especially Atlanta is more vibrant and cultured than SF you dolt. Leave your bubble sometime.

I don’t think many in San Francisco would have written or agreed to a “go back where they belong” statement. That’s why I’ll never move to Georgia.

And even with its problems, SF is still a beautiful vibrant city with loads of culture and generally great highly-educated people from all over the world. There’s a reason the cost of living is so cheap there. It’s Georgia.

Why would anyone want to stay in SF? Used d–g needles in the streets. Human c-ap all over the sidewalks. Soaring homelessness and crime rates. Horrific cost of living. You'll be paid less in GA, but the cost of living is sooooo much lower and the quality of life much better. CA has become a sh–hole.

"Can someone give us an estimate on the number of employees affected by this announcement?"

I'm sure someone will jump in with specific numbers, but I can ballpark. We once had 1,300 employees at Macy's Technology/680 Folsom, SF according to the 2015 sfgate article below. When I left last year, I think we were down to around 900. So the short answer is a lot of talented folks are now looking for jobs.

"cheap H1B labor transfers’ from SFO to JC" is false. The engineers in SF are/were getting market rate (we are in Silicon Valley, after all), and they'll have to take a hug pay cut with Macy''s if they move to Georgia (like well below six figures). Plus, the H1B engineers I've talked to don't want to do that. They've built their lives in the Bay Area, their spouses work here, and their kids go to school here. (See how that works, just like with Europeans, surprise.). So I don't think you have anything to worry about. No one is moving there.

Talked to my attorney. I'm going to send that arse-wipe Naveen Krishna back packing to Home Depot with his head spinning.

Can someone give us an estimate on the number of employees affected by this announcement? Someone mentioned 'Tech to GA Product to NY'. How many employees are affected?

“ They go back to where they belong, in their home countries” - well said. I am all for equal opportunity employment, diversity, inclusion etc. But in unfortunate cases like these, they better honor those who have built their homes, lives, careers and families around the job that they performed for years first before they look at ‘cheap H1B labor transfers’ from SFO to JC

"I just came to know that a written notification is required from the org to employees laying out the notice and details. Can anyone share the same that was published after the call?"

There's not a general notice. Each employee gets a confidential personalized package specific to his/her circumstances, although the gist of the notifications should be similar. In particular, I'm interested in how stingy M is being with severance.

@zvn I strongly disagree - we have some stellar folks here - yeah, there are folks who are not cutting it, but I know many who are really good

to be honest, almost all the people left in mtech at this point are subpar engineers and even more subpar managers. those who are good enough to be hired elsewhere have already been. I'm just being honest here. the culture at mtech has always been toxic enough for high turnover.

Thank You @cpc for the clarification. Any news on severance terms? Also how will they handle people with H1B and GC sponsorship??

Positions are eliminated. New ones are being opened. You can apply. I expect the same for Lorain, they just don’t have a mandatory 60 day notice like CA has.

Q: Are the positions being ‘transferred’ (same role and pay + relocation to location of choice) or being eliminated and need to reapply to an open position and you have to get selected for the role and associated pay? How was this explained? Is a job guaranteed if you are ready to move?!

by

Post ID: @drn+13k5jyZE

@adp you can apply for a job. some jobs will be gone, new ones created. they will use this to purge the ranks - if you had 'ANY' performance issues you can rest assured you are gone - there will be some major movements on the manager and up level - so, cheese will be moved - with that being said, there will be uncertainty and political infighting an jockeying for positions

This is a GREAT way to get H1B based workers (lower expenses and pay). Move the office 2000 miles away from the Tech Hub of America and say they can't hire anyone for a position. Boom, fewer high salaried employees and lower cost. Plus you can treat them like sh– and they can't complain.

OMG, so funny! I was thinking exactly the same thing!!!

“ there's only one guy who calls the sf office "SFO".”

There’s also only one guy (the same guy, actually) who posts a bunch of links with no context ;-)

Funny how folks give themselves away on this “anonymous” site.
