WYW is not solely to blame for poor mentoring of newly hired technical employees. Outside of US, supervisors are all located remotely. Imagine trying to mentor a new hire in India, when the supervisor is in Japan. You have distance, time zones, language barrier and cultural differences! A3M set the company up to fail!

Just wondering if this new guy will be like Neutron Jack?
From website, Mr Brown is one of the least liked CEO, there is a likelihood he will scrap the WYW and get everyone off their as.ses and back to office 100%
WYW is terrible for those technical roles that require years of mentoring in order to become a well rounded employee. It’s nearly impossible to mentor a new hire “over the phone”. For these roles, people need to be working side by side in order for the newbies to pick up on things and ask spontaneous questions throughout the day.
WYW Allows 3M to look for professional talent nationally, instead of just within 20 miles of St. Paul- which is how we got the current mgmt team. For some of the good workers left, it's the last reason to stay. Do you see good talent lining up to work at 3M these days? Flexibility is one tool 3M has to try to keep the good people still left.
Thousands of sales people of all fields have successfully worked remote for decades. Today's technology makes working remote more effective and efficient than ever. It helps scheduling and getting the right people together. Many roles will always have remote meetings because the nature of the job- so it really doesn't matter if these roles are in the office or not.
Not all jobs have the same requirements or benefits; Skills, experience, education, travel, and being on-site requirements all depend on the job; Obviously. Working in a plant requires being on site, but has benefits like stable hours being home with with your family every night. Some jobs that allow WYW also require travel away from family and working across time zones. If you're in a factory and want to work remote, apply for another position.
Not everyone wants to live where the air can be so cold it hurts your face, the roads are so poorly maintained interstate bridges fall into the river, peaceful protests burn down half the city, carjacking and crime are rampant, and taxes are among the highest in the country.
Will the new CEO relocate from Florida to Minnesota? As the new CEO brings in the 'new team' to replace the current management, should the job require coming in to 220 every day?
WYW never made sense to me and I'm in Corp. I don't like when an important meeting is finally scheduled (because of conflicting schedules) only to find that so and so had to take their dog to the vet. Life is about choices. I need my colleagues to be focused during the entire day, every day. If you need to do something, take vacation or a floater - structured time. WYW is not good for business or people serious about the their career.
I don’t believe WYW comments are all about people being upset about freedom. It’s more about you have mfg plants and DCs who don’t have the same flexibility. I get it, their role is different, but it’s not bad to go into and office and be around your peers. You should try it, again. You might be surprised how much you’ve missed it and sitting in the same space with your co-workers.
WB isn't going anywhere soon. CEO Bill's gonna need a few strategic hatchet men/women around to continue to downsize without getting his hand's dirty. Besides, once she missed out on her dream of running EMD in favor of the last two "leaders" who couldn't find their own @sses with both hands and a road map she settled into the good life of getting a higher rating & more money with every 3M job outsourced to JLL.
Is she still having her townhalls? If so, anyone asked to help should run the other way. It's a guaranteed way to put yourself on the chopping block. Ask any of the 10+ people who lost their jobs in the last 18 months after taking on the "career developing" opportunity to produce her communication events
WYW has created an unfair divide. While the factories people have to work hard on site, the highly paid regional folks get to enjoy their work from home while running their home errands.
WYW was and is a terrible program that was premature to say the least. Only a fool would sign off on this experiment. Pull it back and then determine a sound remote work system for some types of work. The company is dying quickly, retract and stabilize is the name of the game post MR.
Wow. What is it about people being able to work from home when convenient that is so threatening to you? You sure seem awfully mad about people having a bit of freedom.
Great news for Gibbons. I heard Cub Foods is hiring shelf stockers!
Those responsible for implementing WYW must be removed, they are a cancer to R&D. Bring in a new Strategy team and fast! Wendy, time to consider retirement. Stop them in their tracks Bill!
Gibbons and his consultant pals are gone
Moni and his latte coffee machines must go. Wendy should also start packing, she’s a complete waste and is a poster child for Clueless 2
What about our GC? Didn’t he get us into the earplug mess when he was Chief IP Counsel? I remember someone posting an article on this issue.
Thankfully, Peter Gibbons is revered by many and will likely get his choice of which company he'd like to join.
He's made a huge impact at 3M in less than 4 years.
Go Pete Go!
Legal
So many vacancies at EVP and VP level that the new CEO can bring in an entirely new team that he trusts!
Glad to hear Moni is out of the running, but I'm hoping that they send an announcement out stating that he is pursuing other opportunities, effective immediately.
Probably the A3m BT people left will be axed.
Not soon enough! I hope potty is disgraced before he leaves, for the number of people he has trampled upon especially women. Hopefully terry will be shown the door too. Toxic to the core.
Taking a guess, but it is not uncommon for a new CEO to bring in his own finance and HR person. So I would bet on that.
There has been leadership housekeeping in SpinCo. It is a mix of voluntary and involuntary. Good riddance to many although we’ve had some tough losses.
I hope new 3M guy does all that and more. There can be upside to hiring a big wheel that has nothing to lose. Can be downside too…
The business SVPS - clock ticking. CFO also. Tireman ?
Monish was unscrupulous, played games with GAAP, and an unsupportive leader. He was reported to 3M Ethics & Compliance. Yet, nothing happened. Perhaps 3M and BOD has finally admitted to themselves what we always knew was true.
