Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Out the door with class!

As my time with enbridge wasn't as long as some of you. I show my respects, because in all my professional career this has been the most awful experience I had the misfortune to endure...I joined with the hope of being part of a team where the company recognizes employees for their hard working values and skills at least with a thank you, but that was too much to ask for...

For all of us that left today, there will be light at the end of the tunnel...keep believing in yourself and have courage, as you're a valuable gem, so don't give up because around the corner there's an amazing opportunity waiting for you ;)

For those staying, focus on what's important, which is you! so don't let the mental stress or emotional anxiety take over your well-being...

A few years back, Enbridge was named in a magazine fluff piece as one of the top companies to work for in all of Canada (I think it was MacLean's, but don't really remember). Many employees were snorting and laughing at the crap in the article. Then we found out that only management was interviewed for the article...NO contract people and ABSOLUTELY no Union people were used as sources by the writers.

They TALK a mean game. Fact is, sometimes they treat employees as though its still 1959.

I was let go in 2015 under the Marathon Oil downsizing. I know how you feel, but better days are before you. Take a deep breath, slow down, and enjoy the time off as it will be short lived. I know you feel out of place at this moment, but don't worry. Take the time to spend with your family and call upon your church for support. I promise a golden road lies ahead. Stay positive and God will bless you.

I left the company a few years ago and I had the same experience with recruiters. One actually laughed and asked me if I really wanted people to know that I had worked at Enbridge. I found my job at my current company through the companie's website. My boss told me the reason why he hired me was because of my experience at Enbridge, he knew that the training would have to be minimal for the length of time that I worked there. I think that people in the industry find the value of the work by Enbridge and the recruiters only know what they hear in the media.

I read your post about your husband and I am 95% sure I know exactly who he is although I don't know you. I wanted to tell you that I started working @Enb last year and he was one of the first senior leader that I met. He is truly a gem, so respectful, humble, hardworking and such a positive person to be around. I have never asked but he stands out as a Christian in every thing that he does. Believe me, he is Enb loss. So many of us were in shock when we heard. I'm sure God has something better for him -'Change equals opportunities'. Let him know that we miss him and appreciate all that he had to offer. I have no doubt his blank slate will be coining an incredible new journey.

-PS - Frustrated employee who knows a great leader makes all the difference

I was one of the people let go yesterday. It was a tough day not just for me but for those not affected. It was hard to see people you've worked with for years being walked out...then I became one of those people.

I'm choosing to look at this positively. Now I have a chance to try something new.

To those let go...keep your chin up and stay positive, know that you are valuable. To those still there...keep your chin up and good luck with the restructure.

The 3 years since leaving Enbridge have been very turbulent. Not only is the price of oil causing massive economic disaster, it trickles down to every business that unemployed people can no longer utilize.

The "Enbridge" on my resume I had always assumed was a feather in my cap. Apparently, it tells the prospective employer that you are used to earning the 'big bucks' with many perks. Companies now are not willing or able to pay the wages that I made at Enbridge. Going rate for an Admin now is around $16 - $20. I was not an admin, but I can tell you that the belt will need to tighten.

The wage I get now is about 1/3 of what I made at Enbridge for exactly the same type of work. There are over 2000 applications on every posted job in my field. I am thrilled to just have a job.

Why the question? At this point does it matters?

Yes, I want to know also. Why did a recruiter say that the worst thing to have on your resume is Enbridge?

Thanks so much for those kind words.

My husband was part of the cuts today. He was with Enbridge first as a summer student every summer and hired full-time 21 years ago. He loved Enbridge and gave them his all every day.

I read your kind words to him and what you said really meant a lot to him. Thank you.

As someone who endured the cut back in 2013 I can advise you that several recruiting agencies have told me the worst thing to have on my resume is Enbridge. I spent 5 1/2 years doing a damn good job for that company only to be told that I was no longer required.

I wish you all the best of luck. Chin up!
