Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Hog slop

Charles Schwab exemplifies corporate violence through its failure to provide a living wage for most of its employees. The company subjects its workforce to intense labor demands without adequate support or meaningful solutions to long-term issues. This exploitative practice not only undermines employees' financial stability but also reflects a broader disregard for their well-being, perpetuating a cycle of economic and emotional hardship.

It definitely shows in how they serve their clients too. Look how sc--wed up their systems are. Once the economy picks up, Schwab will look like a ghost town. Those toxic managers will probably never be hired anywhere else again now that everyone knows how they treat their employees.

If a job has a negative ROI then you should quit. You shouldn't do something you don't enjoy that causes you to lose money unless it will lead to better returns later (Not a negative ROI.) Also, I'm not endorsing Schwab's decisions but your ROI isn't negative unless you are flying to work all the time or paying rent in an expensive city that costs more than what you are making.

You misunderstood the commenter. They’re saying that the financial and professional benefits of RTO don’t offset the costs of commuting. Whether they are speaking for themselves or themselves and corporate benefit is unclear.

RTO is about commercial real estate, attrition and control of labor. There is no benefit to the employee that can offset the personal costs of transportation and time.

The EC knows it isn’t the same. That’s the point.

They wanted people to quit over RTO. Make it just painful enough to cost you while making it seem like they’re sensitive and fair. Kinda like Ike Turner was sensitive to Tina.

Those who say it’s great are either lying to themselves as coping, hate their home life and/or genuinely need work friends and labor support to be productive. They aren’t talent; they’re bodies. Talent makes success anywhere, however.

When you make 10s of millions a year you cannot understand why things can't "go back to the way it was" — first, highly unproductive, second, highly expensive in recent years. EC cannot understand how adding on a $200-300/month commute (that's for just 3 days/week) is an issue — that's a week of groceries for my home - just to f'n go to work. Homeowners and car insurance doubled this year. We are overburdened with price gouging outside of work and overburdened with work while we have to spend time in traffic to f'n even get to work. My ROI in coming into the office is vastly negative. And IMO, it's likely negative for the company (huge increase in expense, very unhappy employees, low morale, budgets squeezed). To those who say being "in person" is so fantastic and a "must have"? Seriously, F off, F all the way off - turn the corner, make a U-turn and F off again.
