Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Any news on layoffs?

Last year, layoffs occurred in mid April. I'm speeculating it's going to be similar so the company can guide for higher earnings for the next fiscal year, taking into account the reduction in force. Anyone have any concrete news?

It depends on how BUs handle it. Some would rip the bandaid off and do a big one. While others choose to RIF a couple every week and draw it out.

Who said it?

Quality leadership on Feb 7th during a quality town hall. Believe it or don’t but it was said. It helped me sleep better for the last month. Last year’s “string them along” for 3 months in the hope some would jump ship was impossible to shake off.

Really? who said it?

Neuro and PH were told last month that layoffs weren’t happening after last year’s blood letting. I can say that those who were cut didn’t miss anything but more pain this year and what appears to be another disappointing MIP (now the status quo). Hard to let go of a company that was so wonderful to work for in the past but times have changed and I don’t see them changing back. GLTA

Layoffs are coming. A lot of large companies are doing it in order to make their stock value look better and the CEOs' bonuses larger.

“No way IT this time around, ..” And we’ve got nothing good to say about Medtronic IT people- good riddance.

Bloated T people , find solace elsewhere, especially those inexperienced, I’ll-trained, unqualified, unearned mid-level managers/director .

“No way IT this time around, ..” most of the OU business leaders sees MDT IT a pain-in-the-b()tt to work with, expensive, Lazy and bloated. News is outstanding- folks in MV all the best; you can’t beat folks in Hyderabad - cost, delivery, efficiencies and ease of Ordering them guys.

I heard its going to be mid level managers and R&D engineers. That makes sense since a lot of research and development are going to the new facility in Hyderabad, India.

Medtronic is slowly becoming an Indian company, but with a white executive.

No way IT this time around, maybe some mid level managers or directors. IMHO there is none left to RIF

However Di--o Endangered and Incompetent (DEI people ) will be saved under any conditions.
Good luck good people that are not saved, better out than suffer.

Yep, I was caught in last years Neuro culling; and couldn't be happier now. I have multiple former coworkers reaching out seeing if I could get them into where I am now. Morale is in the dumpster fire because a lot of legacy neuro always bought into the former MDT mindset that we hired slow, fired slower, and never laid off so they always felt secure in their jobs to take risks on innovate products. That isn't the case anymore.

I thought the company was supposed to give notice of impending layoffs. Three years ago they started the notices at the end of Jan. The next year it was later feb. Last year I thought the delays were due to the early retirement offers needing to go through first. Why so late?

I was told that 10% cuts across the board. Unfortunately, good people will be let go to hit the 10% goal.

Must be! They were banking on dropping monitoring. My bet is a good ol 10%

IMHO 5-10% budget cut is tough to make up without a RIF, SMH but it will most likely happen to some BU.

Yes you can expect like last year layoffs mid April so they can book the charges as a one time event in the books.

Yes, there will be a RIF. It's sad that people are paying the price for GM's incompetence.
