@3wsd+1sKS1sGR, the former GC did not pick Flimflam. Mike did.

The greatest risk is our incompetent legal department led by Flimflam and his banking partner and ERM team.

Are the greatest risks the firefighter MDL, superfund sites, international liabability or something else? I'm thinking superfund sites.

The ear plug settlement may be in the rear view mirror, but PFAS is just getting started.

How is our legal situation getting worse. PFAS and the ear plug settlements are in the rear view mirror.

Flimflam was an internal hire but 3M should have recruited from outside 3M for the role of GC. Flimflam did not have the experience for the job when he took the job and our legal situation is only getting worse.

When the former GC “jumped ship” after it was obvious 3M is a sinking ship, he picked FlimFlam as his successor (this is based on what I was told by friends in legal). Flimflam is good at taking credit for other’s work and making himself look good to senior leaders. But, he is a terrible leader. He and his minions need to go.

I wish her the best. It's an easy job to rake in millions of dollars and get your family wealthy too. Let me walk you through it.

Use your position to get your son/daughter working for a consulting firm - that's the best option. Pay 3M's money to the consultant firm - don't worry that the ideas aren't good or won't make an impact; say things like, "I really hate to hire consultants, but you guys don't know what you're doing".

Tell Bill that "there is a firewall in place". Wording is important, this phrase has worked in the past.

Send suppliers letters demanding that they lower their prices. Think of ideas that a pre-pubescent teen would think of. Act like a petulant child when you stand in front of your larger team.

These things really work. Another 3m group president received a "3" rating last year by following this plan. I wish you luck.

Flimflam was internal.

Nope, not me. Wasn't asked, would have said no if I was.

Yep, K-C and a few other firms are really pulling in long-tenured 3Mers. In the Cities I'd put Andersen Windows on the list too.

I also agree that Bill isn't here to praise 3M, he is here to bury it.

3M hasn't developed internal talent very well either. Look at the home-grown people who tried and failed before Gibbons got hired. Maybe the external hire at SOLV can put together a pipeline of good internal folks and save what is left of HC. Bill Brown isn't going to be here long enough to put together a succession plan. His job is clear: do what DuPont just announced (break into 3 companies). The few good internal folks saw the Mother Mining Ship heading into the rocks and jumped ship for places like Kimberly Clark.

No succession planning.
No trust.
No respect for talent and talented employees.
At 3M, the smarter you are the less chance you get promoted.

Once the top job is from external, like his/her team will follow. Look at Tireman group - majority is hired from external

Typical 3M HR strategy. Go to the outside. The strategy became prominent the last 5 years. One of the reasons 3M is failing.

Strangely, none of the existing division presidents could move up to take the group president role and they had to hire from external. That's our HR HOO.

Only took a year to find someone who was willing to be captain of the sinking TEBG ship.

I wonder what the signing bonus and pre-negotiated severance packages are like.
