Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Who is Simon?

So it’s pretty clear that Simon is one of the most hated people across all the forums that I’ve seen across my platforms. Who is he and why is he seemingly the most id--tic man alive?

Simon reminds me of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite for some reason….

I see you work in Platform Engineering with me! Those that spoke up were dismissed. Even on the blue side.

Unfortunately most orgs are just filled with yes men. If you go against the grain they work to get rid of you. There are some great leaders at Schwab but they are afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation. This is the culture that has been created at Schwab that Walt loves so much. This is the reason a large majority of green people left Schwab as they had to learn the hard way that the days of employees coming first was long gone.

Look, I have been here a long time. I don't really think of Simon in terms of like/hate. What disappoints me is his current crop of MD/Director leadership. The MDs do not recognize the failures of their immediate reports. We can all point them out, but Platform, Network and Hosting in particular consistently offer an incredible display of arrogant, know-it-all, i-do-not-have-time-for-you leaders who either bypass the processes or are so absolutely unaware of their behaviors, that it's a true wonder how they made it to these positions. This is what destroys company culture. Our S-MD is an enabler of this, absolutely, but there is much more to it than just one person.

Do you mind sharing the things he says? I like learning more about the leadership for infrastrucure.

You actually get something? Typically people in that area are know it alls who expect me to be an expert on their domain then they ignore requests I put in and I end up waiting over a month. With how much time they have been working in their field, you would expect them to be more knowledgeable than they are but instead they are know it alls who are incapable of performing simple tasks.

Bruh, we are automating everything. Once everyone is back in the office I am sure we will do it even better and faster.

So much love for Simon here. Wonder if he even reads this site?

His town hall was a joke. He’s got zero credibility with the org he manages. Must be good to be Dennis’ inner circle….

Yup, Simon has been in charge of infra for 2+ years at this point. To be fair, it was a pile of sh-t when he took it over, he just made it shittier.

Hey Simon, my desktop sucks. Maybe hire a real desktop engineer and get rid of the s-xist, deranged maniac that currently runs the team.

Simon is the MD of all the infrastructure teams, correct? Hearing about him it now makes sense why infrastucture at Schwab is so terrible
