There was talk of organizing a union back in 2012-2014. Management took it pretty seriously and had all leaders go thru training and talking points on how to discuss it with employees as a “bad idea” . I think the Communication Workers Union was trying to rep the call center staff. Would likely only work if a push was made at all companies at the same time. May not work at Vanguard and EDJ as I believe they are all employee owned.

@1tnu+1p2S0hMN "Unions are the reason we have weekends and paid Holidays. Auto workers are asking for 40% pay raises and might actually get it. We should have had a Union yesterday. Let me know when and where, I am in."

Might have been true a century ago near the end of the industrial revolution, but it certainly isn't true today. We don't have weekends and paid holidays at CS because of a union. We have it because of a competitive marketplace for labor. Who is going to work here 7 days a week with no paid holidays, if say Vanguard or any competitor offers those standards? Nobody would. You have to offer those things or nobody will ever work for you.

@1xve+1p2S0hMN It doesn't may you immune from layoffs or being fired, but your employer generally has to jump through a lot of hoops. A union generally has a contract with an employer specifying reasons why and circumstances under which employees can be laid off or fired.

Why do you think it's so difficult to fire cops and teachers? Police departments and schools districts are contractually obligated to provide good cause for firing unionized members. Also, from what I understand, layoffs can't be arbitrary (such as, the company has to layoff in a certain order; e.g. by seniority) so they can't target a particular employee or group of employees.

I would happily pay the Union fee if it meant they would stop adding outside job functions to my role. Most of the time it’s a decision made by some higher up so they can look good at the cost of everyone “beneath” them

Just being in a union doesn't preclude you from being laid off or fired.
