Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Coronavirus hou1400

I no see any correspondence on this matter but it was reported an engineer on the 19 level recently traveled from northern italy and he was seen by medical at the hou1400 clinic he was cleared and asked to go on quarantine

Chevron should be monitoring this at detail we see more news on a g– parade than on real significant news that pertain to every single one of us in these facilities

@amxu, oh you poor BAYBAY!!! are you living in a trailer and people call you a redneck? That sure sounds racist to me. There's no shame in being frugal and living in a trailer dear. If they call you names then you should report them. Call someone. At least tell your mommy, dear. She will kiss your bo-bo. Poor baby, I feel so bad for you.....

People disgust me right now. I don’t want to have any contact with anyone. I will avoid the cafeterias, meetings, events, town halls and just about anything where people are involved. If anyone’s needs me I be in my office doors shut. Oh! And NO, YOU CANNOT USE MY SANITIZING WIPES AND GEL. GET YOUR OWN PEOPLE. WE MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THESE OURSELVES.

@4ttw, Your comment would be 100% False. Try posting actual facts instead of fake click-bait headlines that you read on the p–n sites that you frequent.
"As of Feb. 28, 2020, the flu is showing much more of an impact on Americans than COVID-19. You can find up-to-date information on COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)."Researchers currently think that between five and 40 coronavirus cases in 1,000 will result in death, with a best guess of nine in 1,000 or about 1%."

  • - Deaths

COVID-19: Approximately 2,871 deaths reported worldwide

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

The mortality rate from corona is about 20 times higher than typical flu. Containment has failed so far, so the worst case scenario seems likely. A vaccine is at least a year away.

Chevron is disinfecting all DT and BP facilities. Closer examination found the job was not done to full standard by Saturday so all facilities closed on Monday. The water main break serves as an excuse.

@2hux, It's like a flu because it has similar symptoms and properties, respiratory, fever, transmission methods, it's a virus which is untreatable by antibiotics, etc. etc.. In fact, you are more likely to die from influenza than the coronavirus COVID-19 according to an MD on the news today. "So far, 16,000 people have died and 280,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC."
Indeed more people died from the 1918 influenza (H1N1 variant) pandemic than any other disease in modern history and that was a flu. (50 million estimated deaths) So is your point that it is not as mundane and harmless as the simple little plain ol' flu? Try harder. And do some research.

@1zzi I am a contract employee at CVX and can’t afford to pay medical insurance for 3 kids and husband. I barely make ends meet. I can’t think what I do if we get sick, god bless us all, with or without money. I hope no one gets sick.

No it's not a flu.

It's at least 20 times more deadly than flu and it's more contagious. China sealed off an entire state/provice (Hunan) and shut down all economic production there to stop it. They scarified 67 million people to stop this thing. They love money and prosperity as much as we do, why would they do this if this was a 'flu'...

You have doctors dying, health personnel dying, you have asymptomatic transmission happening all the time. So, can be contained cannot be stopped.

And, why in the world would Dow Jones be in a free-fall and Pence and his entire cabinet be directed to focus on this if this is flu.

Now think about this: a guy Miami went to China, got sick, came back and selfreported in late Jan. They tested him and he was negative. He got a 3,500 participation bill even though he had insurance. I'd bet folks with no money (about 60% of population) will not be paying visits to hospitals at all.

So, no it's not a flu...

Spot on @1qij and I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind everyone hold their breath between floors on the elevators.

The SARS and another more recent virus that emanated from China were said to have started by bats transmitting the contagion to cats, then from cats to humans. I’m wondering why these highly contagious viruses, including the avían bird flu all emanated from China. Is there a trend going on here with Coronavirus? Don’t many Chinese take a delight in eating cats, dogs and other domestic creatures that maybe thus virus also has mutated from bats to cats to humans through their normal diet of consuming cat? Sometimes the answers to many problems are right in front of your eyes. I say stop all flights and ships to and from China for starters and quarantine everyone else who came from there in the past couple of weeks.

It’s basically the flu. 81% of people get mild symptoms at the most. Only 5% become critically ill. Numbers per the WHO, based on 44,000 cases. No need to freak out. Eat your veggies, wash your hands, cover your face when you cough or sneeze.

Bring your pajamas and a light change of clothes to work. One day, they will be sealing us in for a two week quarantine in our own building. No one will check out until everyone has been cleared.

Chevron is monitoring it, there are weekly updates with regional medics, business continuity plan reviews, pandemic plan prep, crisis management teams have been activated at San Ramon and impacted BUs. From a statistical point of view, more people will be dead from car accidents and random gun violence.

This is good post and we need more awareness here.

I am going to follow this thread, we need to be asking questions about this.

Per CDC:

  • Internal spread will take place (meaning there will be connection to China or other countries)
  • It's not a question of IF, it's just a matter of time
  • Businesses to have plans
  • Schools to have plans

Per the market (last three days and afterhours today):

  • we are in a free fall
  • there will be a recession
  • travel industry will crater, car sales are 95% down in china
  • oil prices will tank

We'll be fine as a nation, I thin there will be a ton of infections but not as lethal as China (better healthcare)

Now, if schools close, 60% folks in the US are hourly, 75% have less than $1K saved. So, if schools close we are in trouble...

Anyhow, not a zombie apocalypse, we'll survive this but it is going to be a bumpy year
