Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

next downturn

I try not to think negatively, but... if the employees are treated this badly when the company reports a quarterly profit of nearly $20bn, I can't even imagine how things will look when the next downturn happens.

Its probably going into someone's EADS/PDS as saved x dollars in office space and utilities, just like HR's PDS will celebrate number of employees laid off via annual pip and $ saved not providing a reasonable severance. PIP will probably go up to 15-20% during next downturn. No mergers before 2024, and only if the administration changes. Look at what you see in the news, no political appetite to let a major merge, probably limited to buyouts only. Hot desking worked out so good for WeWork....just saying....to the experienced hire, wish you and your family well wherever you landed up. Truly a rough place to be unless you have a director or VP level sponsor when you are brought in. Your new employer lucky to have you and appreciate the feedback, this place is the only place we can get any.

Emptying offices and implementing WE3 during record profits puts all judgment of EM Rxecutives into question.

Either they are stupid, misguided, or planning a merger to fill those buildings.

To whomever asks in what way you’re “treated badly” …. From my perspective - I was a 20+ year experienced hire employee that moved my whole family all around the country and to Houston in 2015. Put my children in school, worked endlessly and tirelessly. Earned ASMs and was considered a core technical mentor. Always on the lookoutPM for opportunities to streamline processes and “unlock maximum value.” Was told in April 2021 (month of my 50th bday) I was a huge asset and had great feedback; in July 2021 was handed an NSI. Biggest shock, punch in the gut I’ve EVER received. They told me someone had to go in that seat, and they thought I was a low flight risk. Made me immediately realize how they didn’t value me. “We are NOT ExxonMobil.” EM didn’t give a sh*t about me, or my family. I took the PIL, despite calls from managers telling me to come back all would be “fine”. And then what? Spend the next 5 years of my career in that lowest bucket, feeling completely unappreciated, waiting for the guillotine to fall?
No thanks.

The environment the current management has created is TOXIC. And I come to this site every so often as a salve to my wounds to realize, I wasn’t alone in my mistreatment and was lucky I got out when I was kicked in the teeth. Crazy how bad it still hurts though!!!! So demoralizing. 😢

Layoffs would not be so bad if they went back to paying 1 month salary per year worked.

If you perform well your job is very secure. At the same time I fully support that the company finally addresses situations where people need some extra help to perform at an acceptable level. We run a business!

Did you seriously just say a job at Exxon presents job security? What ho-e have you been living under for the last 2.5 years?

I am confused? In what way are you being treated badly? Meaningful work, competitive compensation and benefits, strong safety culture, high performance standards, job security etc.. Get a life and stop whining!

Best thing to do is not be here when it happens.
