I’m glad when new hires are happy with their pay. Still, I feel taken advantage of in a way because they are paid the same as an employee who shows them how to do work and who corrects their mistakes. Belk seems to be proving over and over again how much it doesn’t want long term employees?

Valid point! New hires, seasonal or not, should not be making more than a seasoned associate.
@1ted. How much are you making? Judging by your comment you are not one of us that is getting shafted. Wrong is wrong. Everyone should receive an increase. Looking out for the corporation is getting old because the corporation treats us so badly. And before you say go somewhere else, I already have an exit strategy in place. And so do many others.
$15 is more smoke and mirrors. the payroll budgets will be cut making managers take in even more work. If you pay someone $15, they will only get ten hours a week or less, it’s going to be worse!
I believe everyone forgets that just because the pay goes up doesn't mean the payroll budget follows. There will be fewer hours for all and expectation of doing even more work.
New hires are paid more at Belk in Ga. than employees who've invested years at our Belk, imagine how we feel.
“Exploited?” Imagine being a young adult, starting out with first full time opportunity, providing for yourself, contributing to future retirement, taking advantage of corporate benefits like health insurance, life insurance. Wake up! You’re fooling yourself if you think working for $9-$12 per hour isn’t exploitation. $15/hr is a GREAT start and wil only make the overall environment better for all. More work to do still, starting with your outlook.
“Taken advantage of?” Another way to look at the situation; the new hire may feel more compelled to learn, more compelled to produce, may see their current position as their path to growth. Welcome this as a positive for all. It’s past due, but on time!
Yes!!!!
