Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Toxic Positivity

Allstate stop already with the “happy experts” and ACKNOWLEDGE then CHANGE the things that are making employees unhappy. In case you are clueless as to what these things are:

*your CULTURE sucks (you say all the right things but do the exact opposite)
*there’s no internal mobility (he-l you don’t even measure it because it’s so bad)
*your Senior Leadership is clueless and surrounds themselves with kiss ar-e’s who are just as d-mb
*your Senior Leadership/Managers can’t come up with an original idea so they steal from the “grunts” and pass it off as their own.
*your pay SUCKS (do a pay analysis we have)
*you’re RACIST (your pay inequity, and new found “diversity” hiring is tied to leadership obtaining bonuses, this has gone on for years)
*TW if you want a new Allstate get rid of the poorly behaving long term (7 years plus) leadership and managers who enable each other’s bad behavior, incompetent lack of skills and in many cases downright illegal behavior towards employees.

Please know you have underestimated your workforce we are smarter than you think! And we will continue to leave in droves for employers with better offerings.

i think the preponderance of white males in the 14 leadership positions is what is woefully out of line with the demographics of the nation AND employee base. And non-Hispanic whites are only 54% of the American population.

nice try with your disinformation.

@5vrf+1eeWn2IM when you say 80% of the top 15 leaders are white and that doesn't reflect the demographics of the country maybe you should look at the demographics of the country. 73% of the country is white, so if we had 14 leaders it would be right in line.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States

On a TA conference call today they said 80% of the hires in 2021 were diverse and that means not white male or female, I have seen several of those hires who have been let go or "managed out" after several months because instead of hiring based on ability they hired based on race, also one of my coworkers is non-white and has been trying to get a management position, but they are focused on external and she would be a great manager. She has an offer from another company and once her background clears will give notice.

Per the company's own web site, 67 percent of the company's top 15 leaders are white males. 80 percent of the company's top 15 leaders are white. To those crying reverse racism, how do you explain those numbers? Of course this in no way reflects the demographics of the country, state, or greater Chicago area.

Are you trying to tell me white privilege is real? Who would have believed it.

It is interesting to read about my fellow white males complain about discrimination.

To hear the complaints one would assume discrimination is wrong but I do not remember reading any complaints on this board or similar arenas for the 50 years white males benefitted from the discrimination they now rail against.

To be clear, discrimination is wrong in any size, shape, or time. But choosing to stand against discrimination only when you are personally damaged by it is just as wrong.

@3fpo+1eeWn2IM In an effort to jump on board with the BIPOC hiring Allstate has hired people who are BIPOC that deserve the roles, they have also hired people into roles that they were not qualified for but there was pressure to hire more BIPOC. I saw this first hand with about 5 people in the past nearly 2 years and 4 are already gone with one about to be gone. It is sad to see good people fail because they were put in a role that they were not prepared or qualified for, if they had been put in a lesser role and then given the chance to promote up they probably would have been fine.

In an effort to hire more BIPOC the Allstate policies are actually failing BIPOC

I used to like working for Allstate. I am still grateful for a job but BIPOC = BULL$HIT.

Do you want race to be a factor?, or do you not want race to be a factor? Answer: "Yes". THAT is the problem, and Allstate is a example of a wider issue going on in our society and world right now.

@1sse+1eeWn2IM I agree with The New Minority Voice. Why are white males the enemy?! We are busting are @$$ES in trenches, I didn't get born with a silver spoon up my @$$, and this "BIPOC" nonsense in this thread makes me wanna pu-e honestly.

You get what you work for. PERIOD. I know this post will upset people but truth hurts.

I wish I could claim my race as excuse for my failures, but ignore it for my successes. I can't. I'm the enemy, an evil white male and I control everything. FYI: Lumping us all together IS RACISM.

White males are definitely the out of favor group. Instead of a focus on equality which is about equal opportunities, the company has been corned by liberals into Equity which targets equal outcomes. That approach fails to distinguish and recognize effort, education, business results, behaviors, etc. Any hardworking BIPOC categorized employee should be offended that company has targeted you for advantage vs. achieving positions of greater responsibility by merit. BIPOC stands for Black Indigenous People of Color, the group the company will advantage to the detriment of other classes. The problem they have is every company is chasing the same limited group, and we don't seem very attractive for outside hires. Wilson simply a social pawn in the democratic liberal playbook and trying to keep the BLM group away so he'll play the game. We all recognize the value of diversity, but to target our efforts to equity suggests our equality focus has failed due to the actual differences in performance by groups or by continued bias. MLK-be judged by the content of our character and not color of our skin. Unfortunately, some groups think that's unfair?

I like working for a new company now where I can p-e and not be questioned as to why I did.

Allstate micromanaged people to the point they didn’t want to or even care about being productive anymore. Factor in the raises being a joke if you did meet or exceed goals. I’m much happier where I am at

That's one perspective. If you are a white male your career has ended @ Allstate.

Not because of the Peter Principle but because of the BLM principle.

I have nothing to add except if it improves the state of the world at this point, go for it. Really. But do not poll me on my personal opinion regarding it I subscribe to the ancient concept of meritocracy.

I've seen all recent promotions and wish them well.

The OP speaks the truth, I have seen I think all of what you speak of in my business unit.

To the person that talked about Progressive I have a few friends that do recruiting for you guys and they have said they are getting ready for staff reductions, not necessarily layoffs just not replacing people when they leave.

@1fxo+1eeWn2IM I also would not say racist, if anything it is now becoming reverse racism. If you didn't know half the candidates going for final interview need to be diverse, and if there are only a few diverse candidates they automatically go to final interview whether they are qualified or not.

Allstate is attempting to put band aids on bullet holes (sorry Taylor Swift) with their futile suggestions such as group gaming, Energy for Life and Holiday Celebrations with departments. “Lean in” and be “agile” Allstate and do the work to take care of your employees or don’t and the business suffers. Which means less money in leaderships pockets.

I also agree with OP’s statements and have personally witnessed each in my business area.

I have known people stuck at Individual Risk Assistant level for years in underwriting that can’t get a higher paying position.

I told them to come follow me to progressive. You’ll make $20+ easily. No pulling teeth to get recognized or promoted. Gainshare too.

Yes the 4 pillars of happiness Faith, Family, Friends, and Work.
Let's see thanks to the transformative growth and having to work over time for the past year (sometimes 60 hours a week).
I have not been able to go to church to practice my faith because I am too mentally and physically exhausted.
I have less time to spend/enjoy with my family.
Same thing goes for friends.
And I can't manage or enjoy my work because as a LDU adjuster I spend half my day putting out fires due to the delays in auto and rental or fires for claims that belonged to people who quit.

Some of these points are spot on, but when it comes to being racist? Hardly.

They're the most diverse company I've worked for, out of the 6 places I've worked professionally over the last 16ish years.
