Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Look at the news today

More and more locations with confirmed COVID-19 cases are popping up each day. I see three more in the last 24 hours - and those are the ones that made the news. How many are there that don't? Shouldn't this be a warning sign to our management that something isn't being done right? That some major changes are warranted?

Oh, right, I forgot. They need to care to actually attempt to make employees safer. My mistake.

One American dies every 45 Seconds. You think I'm going to die for this company you've got another thing coming.

Nice to see that those likely in the comfort and security of their corporate office continue to demonstrate complete lack of empathy for those on the front lines with maximum exposure/risk. Why any company would continue to employ persons that show such a blatant disregard for legitimate employee concerns is beyond me. Please remind me is there a cash register in your office? And what is your personal SPH average? You should check your facts before posting as the company is NOT granting leave to just anyone who asks for it. My store currently has over 30 associates out on leave including my store manager who has not even set foot into our store in over 4 weeks (deemed high risk). The rest of us are working over time to keep the place running and increasing our own exposure in doing so. Also see you made absolutely no attempt to address the original post as to why there has been an increasing number of documented COVID-19 cases at Lowe's stores. Why is that?

Per the new Lowe's guidelines one of the following must apply to get the additional paid time off:

  • 14-days of emergency paid leave for all associates who need it, whether that’s because they are feeling sick, caring for a loved one, or because they have been faced with new hardships such as closed schools and daycares.
  • Extended emergency paid leave up to a total of four weeks for those at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

So we can't just walk in and say we want extended time off when the above does not apply. So your "you can take time off with no issue" statement is false. If you have a definitive company policy number supporting that claim then please post it here. As for the second part of your statement, I have a strong feeling you will be getting that wish fulfilled once other businesses start opening back up. Be careful what you wish for cause some of us will be taking our decade long "presidents club" SPH right out the front door and possibly directly to the competition.

You can take time off with no issue instead of whining about the place that pays you or just not work there at all

If you get the virus you can go after your employer and get a claim.

I think once this is over (and eventually it will) the statistic I sadly look forward to seeing is how many Lowe's employees were ultimately diagnosed with Covid19 and how many eventually died from it. And then comparing those numbers with similar data for HD employees. Have little doubt that both companies are trying to keep things hush but to date I could only find one report of a HD Covid19 case whereas with Lowe's there have already been several confirmed cases plus one death. Based on available media reports documenting confirmed cases, HD is clearly doing a much better job at protecting their employees than Lowe's. And if their employees are better protected than it stands to reason they are also doing a better job at protecting their customers as well. The data doesn't lie.

The death rate in the U. S. Is only 3%.
