Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

MW email

So MW has all his lackeys roll out bad news, and then he sends out today’s email filled with cope around how successful we are. It makes them look so disconnected. Perhaps an over correction? Notice not a single reference to the doom messaging that been circulating. Working is is like living with a bipolar parent. It’s a total guess what the mood is at point.

@1six, the exact opposite happened, I know, I opted out in 2020. We turned in our intent to leave (in retrospect, "expressed interest" seems so quaint) a full month before we were allowed to tell anyone we were leaving, including those who would take over our responsibilities. Then we had a maximum of two weeks to hand over our jobs to our successors (my boss in 2015 only had 5 days), and even that was voluntary and unchecked. At that point we had to hand in our laptops, which means we didn't even have any means of communicating with our successors from that point forward. If you turned in your laptop on the 1st day of being able to do so, you would have left with virtually no handoff to anyone, in other words, you would have "disappeared".

they are sending doom and gloom in hopes of making people leave that way they don't have to layoff - which OF COURSE affects stock and their profits. They are a bunch of bumbling baboons - with no knowledge of which way is up

Company let way too many good people leave during transformation leaving a huge experience gap and massive technical/business expertise. Should have been a transition to to the next generation rather than handing the keys to people who still needed training, mentorship and development

Winning in any environme was not meant for Chevron nor for employees, it was planned for executives, and they won big time. They are just concerned now that they are not winning enough. So please do mor3, say less, so the stock price can go high up again.

MW has elevated himself above the fray. He is grand emporer, in the style of Ken Lay. NH is his Skilling. MW focuses his efforts externally on television and conferences while others get their hands dirty with the day to day. His only instructions are to promote ladies, slash costs and beat the SP500.

MW has made some poor checkers moves, after a few brilliant years. He became obsessive, vs. balanced, in his focus outside of the company. As he did, he became more removed and unaware of what’s happening in the real bowels of the company. He has driven a must through the ELT down into the next level on accelerating the selection of diversity candidates into upper leadership positions (26+). His intent is to achieve equity and equality faster…..but his approach is flawed as the summation of selections of not putting the best candidate into positions is coming through in decision quality, workforce motivation and deliverables. He put a further wedge into the company by consolidating 99% of the workforce under NH with the formation of OPG…he said it was to further drive integration of teaming - why was he so unable to do this when Upstream, Middlestream and Downstream reported directly to him? So he needed someone else to do it? I think we would all agree that teaming is better today than a few years ago, but marginally and not in a “transformational” way - remember that word of the day when we were supposed to see how the changes were transformational to the good (not!)?. This further removed him from what was happening down in the company. He continues to roll with the status quo on succession planning via the “chevron mold” vs. breaking new ground in who is getting selected in the upper echelons in successions. He talks about updating and modernizing things like how we work, but he hasn’t modernized his senior leaders, that is for darn tooting. We have tyrant Presidents like BN who is a micro manager, a nervous nanny, completely unapproachable, does not accept feedback, and is about as biased as they get with “my way or the highway” (like JG the elder). JG in ol CNE is the same, just a LOT more political in how he navigates, who he backstabs and how he weaves his own CYA stories. MW needs to take a looooong look in the mirror and start leading from the front again, not hiding behind others to send bad guy memos. Send them yourself, the good, teh bad and the ugly. Get your head back into the company, make the tough decisions, show the organization you mean business and start putting the right leaders into place (we need change, not hte same old mold that goes back 2 decades). If MW can’t see this and do this, it might be that he is hte one that needs to be updated by the BOD.

The note was absolutely tone deaf. There is no way PB wanted to take the fall as he leaves, but clearly big ol MW twisted his arm to take one for the ol teamo. PB sends notes, NH sends notes, some of the OPG leaders send notes……..all thrashing us. Then, Mr. Mikeohero sends out his note to be the good un, dat we all run tooo to save us. What a crock of Shetola. Give us more credit please as we look through this smoke and mirrors. You’re insulating us MW, you really are.

They messed up through transformation. It is barely 3 years and there is no accountability on poor decision yet preparing you for another round or restructuring.

The people at the top have only known success in their work life. When you always get promoted or the preferred assignments, you become clueless to what the majority of the workforce faces on a daily basis. Facing a potential layoff every 4 to 6 years is something none of them have had to experience. In fact, they have probably been promoted during those times. So, attempting to read the tea leaves when one of these dopes sends out an email is pointless. It su-ks and I don't like it but it's not going to change. You have to prepare yourself for all the possibilities which includes the worst case. Good luck to all.
