the non office professionals, as you call them, are already paid differently. They are paid like the field-based employees at other oil companies. Their pay has nothing to do with the relative pay of people who do work in an office full time or on a hybrid schedule.

If you have a hybrid model how will those non office professionals be compensated differentially? You know the ones that keep the oil fields and facilities running. Either the company pays them more or they pay you less. My guess is they would and should pay the office workers less with time. Call it supply and demand economics. There are a lot more people willing to work from home then not. Also, under a hybrid model management still needs to be in the office and not at home. Do you think management is going to put up with some staff being at the office and others being at home. The answer is no. The way to work this is to call everyone back to the office and see how many people quit. Then the company can hire people who really want the job.

My kids have both worked in their offices since the initial stay at home last March. My daughter who is in retail never really got off and had to take a leave of absence to be off. Many of my neighbors go to work daily, and again started not long after the schools opened and daycares opened. For us to be at home this long has been a blessing, and now that I am vaccinated it makes more since to go back to the office. I think Oxy has went above and beyond in making sure employees safety has come first. The only thing good about this pandemic is that it has shown many can WFH, and the company should be able to re-tool their office needs and cut down on leases, etc. I am hearing maybe three days a week in the office, and two at home working. Not sure if that will affect the 9/80, but if it does then it does. I am lucky because I am nearing retirement, so in the long run it does not really affect me, but I think a hybrid model would work.

People in the oil industry are spoiled rotten compared to the heavy manufacturing industry up north. I am talking about the areas of the country in the steel belt that built this country. Most professionals there are not getting 9/80 and have gone back to work in the office full time. They get some bonuses, no LTI, and it doesn’t get pushed down below senior management. So quit complaining. People should be glad for what they have even if it means no 9/80 or having to work from the office five days a week. You have inflated egos and it is time to deflate them back to reality.

Not worth it. Oil and gas only favor narcissists and egoists. It's a dysfunctional industry at best and Oxy epitomizes the highest level of that dysfunction. There are many better industries out there that treat employees way better.

Sure. Great industry. Interesting work. Overall great pay and benefits but you have to live with the ups and the downs. It can be very emotionally trying. It takes self confidence and a spouse who believes in you to make it work.

Oil and gas is great! Super cool people, lots of garages in downtown Denver to skate, oh man, endless possibilities! Core Values, expensive lunches..absolutely fantastic!

You shouldn’t trust this industry. If you are early in your career you should do everything possible to exit this industry. Downturns are brutal and oil and gas companies have a notorious record. They will lay you off and not think twice about it... especially as you get older. It’s much easier to change careers when you’re young. Do it!

Have you ever heard of go forward economics and sunk cost. History has nothing to do with future decisions if the economics for a future decision are positive. If the money has already been spent it is no longer a consideration for a future decision. Oh, and self respect doesn’t even enter into it.

Oxy recently issued raises. why TF would the company cut staff after giving raises? Just so the severance package is more expensive? Your brain is a powerful tool, consider using it

People are asking about cuts because they don’t trust this industry. It is not just Oxy.

Or you could leave for the following reasons:
1) you will be anxious and on edge for the rest of your career with this outfit
2) you can get more money if you jump ship now
3) there are probably companies out there who will actually grow over the next few years and who are not in over their head in debt.

Please calm down. There has been no indication that we should worry about this and Oxy clearly gives ample warning. Furthermore, why cut now when CoC expires in 16 months. If you are still worried, then use the 16 months to come up with an exit strategy or backup plan. Otherwise, it’s just business as normal in this industry and your job is as unsafe as the next person at another company.

No, there will not be cuts soon. Stop worrying about it or hoping for it, whichever is your deal. Get to work. Jeez.

Whoever set up the Anadarko COC for Anadarko employees was brilliant. Can we get them back to lead us into the future?

Cutting is not a focus until at least August 2022. That’s when the Anadarko COC expires. They really can’t do much until then. They may do some voluntary exit packages... we will see. All I know is I’m doing the work of three people now as is.

No information on cuts but I am sure they can find areas to cut once the organization moves back to the office. Cutting has not been a focus over the last year because of covid.
