Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Why would anyone in their right mind....

if I were young today and looking for a job, I sure as heck wouldn't want to be strapped behind a desk listening and trying to argue claims. There is a shortage of truck drivers who now make 6 digits with great benefits while sitting in an air conditioned, auto transmission, and comfortable cab without some mo--n monitoring everything you do. You're doing something that is productive while being looked up to instead of being the big evil insurance company. The stress is exponentially less and the physical labor is healthy. The only tests are driving and dr-g test. Just think....looking at a highway and not a CRT with a phone ringing off the hook. 35K vs 120K a year. Don't need a college degree, be politically correct, and deal with office politics to figure out what's better and more competitive.

They can LoJack all they want. However as a driver, you don't have to put up with the BS abuse you get in insurance and all the people who you meet are happy to see you without preconceived opinions. The people who are adjusters don't see the long term mental and physical damage of their job until they retire then it's too late. Get the heck out as soon as you can. Do something positive! Just like cops...high divorce rate, high substance abuse, and many go out on disability. The ones who do make it out healthy are very very rare!

I left express in an overpriced metro area for a WFH job at a large electronic components distributor in a small town with a much better quality of life and dirt cheap cost of living. This company pays almost as much as what my SF salary was after working there for 4.5 years + the entire premium for health, dental, vision and a 7% 401k match. This company also PUSHES us to use their tuition reimbursement program. I literally go to the doctor and don’t pay anything. My only, seriously the only, expense I have is a $10 rx copay if I were to ever need one. I’m commenting because I occasionally read this forum and it reminds me how much time I wasted at SF and got nothing to show for it in return. SF does not care about its employees. How can my present, much smaller employer afford Cadillac benefits for its thousands of employees and a salary that actually is considered middle-class for this area, but SF can’t? Well, they can. They just don’t care to because the structure of the company is not one of a mutual company. SF is a crony fly-by-night operation with sociopaths at the wheel and their sheepdogs nipping at your heels over stupid made-up metrics inspired by an workforce management model designed for a completely different industry. I encourage anyone and everyone to leave SF. It’s the best decision I ever made.

Yeah as someone with consistent 5 ratings, a SF paid for degree, and trapped in CA level for the foreseeable future, the move back to the office will be the motivation i need to get a career out of my time here at SAF. Most of the decent workers ive talked to are in the same boat. Yeah rocky road during the pandemic made a lot of people ok with things they would normally walk out the door over, and many did walk out during SFs need for ultimate employee flexibility to counter their mismanagement of staffing and technology stability.

Let me just say, if you thought turnover was bad before, being the highest in the industry, just wait until all the productive people carrying 3-4 CA's who just show up for the check get motivated to go earn an additional $10-$15k a year at another company.

I think by the end of this transformation (an I've never in my life seen a company "transition" be positive for workers btw) SF will have successfully reduced their employee and human stock, however it will be mostly their good workers, leaving a condensed medicore workforce.

That is SFs future on its current path. A diverse group of half assed workers kicking claims cans down the road to whoever is next in line. Maybe that condition will give them the excuse they need to open an indian offshore claims center or go fully automated.

Over the road truckers are heavily regulated and monitored, your ignorance is evident.

No one wants to be a claims adjuster when they grow up.

No one aspires to be one in college.

Agreed, claims is a tough place to be, no one appreciates the work you do. High performers just get more work, you have to help so and so who is always behind on their claims .

Once SF starts requiring people to go back to the office, you will see people leaving for the Wfh jobs . We are always very behind on hiring and training new reps, in Injury at least. Tough times ahead .

without some mo--n monitoring everything you do

As an owner-operator, maybe. Otherwise those rigs are heavily lojacked.
