Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Convergence or Death? Leave now or wait on a package?

Reality is this industry's sustainability has been on shaky ground for a decade. Maybe it had a couple more years in the tank but pandemic has brought everything forward and now the quagmire garage sales are imminent. Looks like Ricoh will be piecing itself out by April.

The packages are now 8 weeks for an associate, 12 for a manager, 2 for sales and 16 if you're IT or someone they really need. Lump sum with 2 weeks of medical. Not much of a package. Start looking and if you find something comparable, take it. You might get lucky and they really need you to stay so they give you a heads up when they're getting close. But jobs are scarce out there right now unless you offer something really specialized. Start planning for the next phase of your life.

Do not make the mistake of waiting for a package that likely won't appear. You could be rebadged over to HCL, or some other offshore services company, or furloughed and getting nothing.

Everyone should be taking this time to find other employment.

Everyone.

I agree with @1vfh+16rUA0mA. Ricoh's machines twist and bend so easily. Even the production equipment is made of cheap metal.

Ricoh printers used to be okay but each new version model’s weight got progressively lighter to the point where you can’t move them without the flimsy frames twisting. Total junk. I think ricoh will (or has?) beat xerox by a nose in race to the bottom.

I know a lot of people not even close to retirement who waited for a package and now they are over 1 year + and desperate for work. There are several factors such as your skill set, regional market/economy, age as well as your personal situation. Waiting just for a “package” if you have any other viable option is not something I would personally recommend. Good luck !

If you are early or mid career and have a viable job offer, don't let the possibility of a package keep you. Packages are not even close to what they were years ago. I remember when they offered 2 weeks per year of service, capped at a year I think. Then it was 1.5 weeks, then 1, then max of 12.

If you are late career and nearing retirement and don't mind working, waiting for a package might be worthwhile.

Are you that broke that a “package” would make an impact on your career decisions? Max 12 weeks pay and probably being reduced as we speak. XRX is not obligated to provide a package and they can change over to “you’re fired” at any time.

@1qgi+16rUA0mA- You were a xerox dealer but you were using a competitive piece of gear? Nope.

How sad is it that as a Xerox dealer our best working copier in our admin office was a Ricoh and everyone in the building came to use it because it never broke down unlike the Xerox ones

ricoh boxes ARE total garbage. I used to sell them. Putting them on anything longer than a 36 month lease was a client relationship k–ler.
