Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Future income loss is not due to Union raises but due to EV's. Nobody wants to buy Ev"s

People are not buying EV's because they can get you stuck in big cities and then mugged. Charge docks are few and take forever in unsafe areas. The replacement batteries later are more than the whole car cost. The cars are SPY machines for the insurance companies to not have to pay if in accident, no privacy for driver who paid for car. Talk about the core problem. It is the politicians pushing automakers into EV,s which will derate future income. UAW is being used as the scapegoat to cover for this known tsunami coming.

Any Ford employee who actually thinks no one wants to buy EVs needs to resign immediately. Clearly, you do not understand the change that is happening in the automotive industry and are unfit to work for Ford.

@1pos+1oDIgnXo is exactly right - EVs are taking over everywhere. Even places like Texas where Conservatives have a permanent lead over the Libs. It's just a matter of time - short time - until we are all driving EVs and waving goodbye to gas stations.

Tacoma’s are not small trucks, they are mid sized like the Ranger. Maverick is a small truck. Toyota will build a small truck to compete with Maverick.

I love is Austin Texas. So far I have seen 5 Ford Mach E and 3 Ford F150 Lightning EV this year. Tesla EVs are everywhere in Texas.

This goes to tell you that no one wants to buy Ford EVs.

You can look up the EV sale numbers. Tesla sold over 1.4 million units last year. Ford sold 50,000 units.

This year Teals will sell more than 1.6 million units. Ford will sell 50,000 units.

Ford loose $10,000 for every EV that they make. They prepared to loose $3 billions for EV this year and every year.

@1raq
Toyota has been building the Tacoma since 1995. No need to wait any longer. Let us know what color you get.

Im waiting until Toyota builds a small truck to buy one, and they will. And it’s not the good people who build new Ford’s fault, because they do quality work. It’s management’s fault for not running the company properly. This place is a dumpster fire. Even the Ford dealerships are unsure of the future, and don’t have enough information to properly answer questions.

@udb+1oDIgnXo BEVs were ALWAYS considered a niche market, that Tesla filled up. There are plenty of articles and stats online showing that the percentage of the population that was interested in BEVs already have one. That's why some experts are pointing that the future profits of Tesla are limited, and that woul explain also the push of Tesla for reducing prices, so they can increase the number of interested consumers on its products.

You obviously don’t own an EV because you speak of lies. Chargers cost $20k+ so they’re not being placed in high crime areas. They’re usually in areas with a supermarket or gas station because the owners use them as a lure for business. Every time I drive an ICE vehicle I hate the experience. The acceleration chugs and the vehicles stink. The pros far outweigh any cons with EV vehicles.

Let’s revisit this in a year. EVs have peaked at around 7% market. They are too expensive and lack real world range. The EPA cycle is a joke

@ien+1oDIgnXo

Do you support a full transition to EV?

Do you own a Tesla as your daily driver?

What is your arguement - that EVs are the way forward? Or just that Tesla (exclusively EV) is selling more EVs than their ICE/EV competitors?

The market will give a true answer, Model Y outselling everyone else in almost all geographies tells a story. Rants are OK but the market has spoken. And now you have some Tesla models getting into mid-400 mile range, charging speeds in a 500+ miles per hour. So, to add that 50 miles that will take you home you just need to spend a few min charging.

You can downvote all you want but you cannot reverse about two decades of steady and supported progress in this area.

Carmakers are anxious to keep costs down as they ramp up electric vehicle manufacturing, while striking workers want to preserve jobs as the industry shifts to batteries.

Sure, nobody wants to buy EVS...that's why Tesla is going bankrupt.

I would not buy an EV, especially a Ford or GM.

They are known for problems and recalls.

Their quality is in the sh-t hole.

EVs are here to stay, like it or not. There are customers where this vehicle suits their lifestyle. Not everyone drives up north or cross country. For customers who charge at home and commute within a 50mi radius (which most of us do 90% of the year) they work fine. Down vote all you want but at least give an objective opinion. This whole “EV bad” argument has been preached for the last 20years. Tesla just sold more Model Ys than RAV4 last month. Is that not a good thing? At least the Model Y is built in Austin, Tx by a company based in the US. Can’t say that about the MachE which is “Hecho en Mexico” with battery cells that come from Poland (thus why it does not qualify for the full $7500 tax credit). The problem is Ford su-ks at EVs, not the technology itself. Even Elon said that EVs will not replace everything, but they will woo customers as they improve with each successive generation.

Has anyone on here actually owned/leased an EV? Like really. We had a Mach-e, and it was by far and away the best vehicle we ever had 99% of our charging was at home, so no dark corners of woke cities (and again, if you’d actually owned an EV, you’d know most of the chargers that are non-Tesla are at supermarkets or other well lit high traffic areas). We did (and still do) keep an ice vehicle, as for road tripping, the charging network isn’t as reliable or as well available as gas stations are for journeys over 200 miles. EV’s have a place, and given that 80% of the population lives in Urban areas, they are the most practical choice (and the data support this too…why do you think most PHEVs shoot for 30-50 miles of range - almost all journeys fall within this range).

Op is correct. Being stranded and having to wait for a long charge time is a big safety issue in most woke big cities who refuse to fight crime. And EV’s don’t make sense in rural country areas. EV’s are bad all the way around.

Years ago, some big manufacturers took bailout money that was offered. Mistake to do it. Now some manufacturers are under the thumb of the payors of the money and are told what they have to manufacture even if they can see it is a product with no future. They are at the mercy of whatever person is in power and holds the money bag from here on out.

Common everyday people are not going to buy a "Peace Buster" EV. Transportation must be reliable, safe and affordable. Peace of mind that you can actually pick your children up on time, actually make it home from the grocery store, not worry that gouging computer may decide to stop the engine. Regular gas engines in older vehicles give great comfort when maintained. EVs are just novelties for the rich who have many other reliable vehicles and do not have to count on a toy political experiment of whoever is in office for that day.

How about the new ‘software defined vehicle’ approach.

This has resulted in a recall of 4-5 years of vehicles with backup cameras. Affecting current model explorer also. Sales halted on current explorer. 3 or 4 other vehicle lines affected by recall.

A family member has a 2015 flex has same recall. It’s no use to go to scrapyard and get a used camera, the issue is in the software, and I guess no solution exists yet for the issue.

Same thing for new Bronco, one of my colleagues says his new Bronco tells him he can’t drive the car between 1am and 4 am due to software download-update.

So what if there’s an emergency , medical or other, and you have to drive?
We are at the mercy of ‘software defined vehicles’ yielding unusable device, similar to endless Windows updates, and freezing blue screen of death he-l that our PCs experience.

Hang onto your old beaters. Keep them alive and well.

HR 1435 is a bill to preserve choice in vehicle purchases, rather than mandates for EVs. Debbie Dingell was out at Wayne on the picket line showing solidarity. Great Debbie, but you voted against this bill that would protect UAW jobs producing gas powered vehicles, like those at the plant you feigned solidarity with. Biden also is against that bill and all in on EV mandates. The UAW should be striking the Democrats, not Ford.
