Our store manager is making $110,000 while sales associates are being hired at $11-$12. STM’s are stuck at $44,500.

whenever a company has a huge pay gap between store managers and assistant store managers that typically is not a real good sign. If a store manager is making $110K, the assistant managers or STM’s should be at $65k-$75k, not all the way down at $45k. Pay gap is too large.

Forrest Gump: “Momma always said that life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get” Working for Belk is like that box of chocolates, we never know what nasty store managers or which dirty stores you gonna get! That is all I have to say about that!

@1gek what a lovely comment! We are all winners at Belk just hating the bad and careless bad business attitudes from our store managers or from the top. Mirror mirror on the wall who has the ugly and dishonest business greedy at all?

@1pbi. Sounds like you are proving my point with your comment. I consider myself a winner for not accepting belks bull. That does not mean I am a loser. I am actually a top permormer at belk but I refuse to act like you and be in denial about how you are supposed to treat people. Next time you call somebody a loser maybe you should be lokking in the mirror. Nobody said anything about evil managers just greedy.

Selling your soul to the devil at the right price for a big salary position at Belk is not so hard. Can you live with that and treat your associates like peasants? Abandon one’s values and morals in order to achieve a higher benefits and survive if that what you like but it is your soul to sell to Belk devil and only you to blame in the end!

Belk is a joke and is run horribly from the top down. The worse business practices ever. But it is still my choice to stay or go. I was recently offered a management position where I would get a decent raise but that would mean I would have to practice those aggressive, horrible and unfair practices to my coworkers. So at what cost in belk and this country does a person take that position to make the money yet forget how to value people. For me I will make the starvation wages and keep my soul intact. In my store the management is a group of people that are codependent and they favor people by whether they are in the group not by whether they are actually doing the right thing. I will one day soon get out of belk but until then I can't blame anybody but my self for staying.

@1wei sure right store managers have more work and responsibility than we ever know! Talk like we are so d-mb and don’t know exactly what store managers can do at Belk. Here is the reality of life that anyone can apply for a store management position but it helps to get there faster if you know the right people at the top. It is not what you know but who knows you! May be who you blow to get to the top too!

People in the rank and file, complaining about how much their managers make. Some things never change. Trust me, if you keep this mentality, you'll never get to that place. But those people started out just like you. They just wanted more. And they have more responsibility and do more than you'll ever know. It just won't ever be as apparent to you as floor work is.

How about an RVP who is not only working for Belk, but also working for another retailer as some type of advisor or merchandise consultant that would be considered a competitor. shall we name names?

You know who you are

Thanks for all great stories and observations. I thought I was the only one thinking that store managers are useless as the ashtray on a motor bike or worthless as ti-s on the boar hog!

Our store manager actually works a part time job bartending. This has been an issue since she started two years ago. She’s off almost every weekend and on Thursday’s and Fridays she is working 7-3. She is actually working a shorter shift than the associates. RVP does not care.

Store managers and RVP’S are huge wastes of money, the could eliminate the rvp position and just have the Group VP over stores. The store manager could be replaced with a chimpanzee and it would make no difference.

My store manager always on vacation or in her office all day. Such a waste of money and brainless salary doing nothing. Then again money is not buying productivity at Belk more like buying more useless people?

Put store managers working hard for that $110,000 salary by helping clean fitting rooms or clean up recovery don’t you think so?
