What should I do?

Just leave HP. This place su-ks harder than a vacuum.
I’m not sure which continent u r based in, but in Europe, moving from a permanent contract to a CW (contingent worker) isn’t legal. Then again, HP is well known for doing whatever they please.
I agree with u in principle—it’s important. But what I did was wait until they paid my share. I was based in Brexit 😐😐😐😐, so not much employee protection there either. So I waited until I got paid because I believed it was my right and my cash, even though I hated the serpents around me.
Btw, good luck finding a new role. It’s hard, but we’ll get there eventually—everyone does.
After thinking about it for some time I ended up choosing to resign. Being a CW is an embarassment to someone like myself who has always been a non CW. My father is the inventor of Toaster Strudel so income is not an issue for someone of my stature. Respect and dignity mean a lot more to me so I've decided to resign without even giving notice considering the disrespect that was given to me through the original ultimatum.
What should do you? C'mon seriously, think about it. The choice is simple - Either become a CW and continue to get a paycheck, or get canned. I think you'd want the money.
Just become a CW and start looking for another position. Then quit the HP CW job when you land something else. HP offers you no loyalty, and you should offer HP none either.
Convert to a CW to keep the paychecks coming. But also start to aggressively look for another job right away while you’re a CW. The IT job market is BAD right now.
Good luck it’s a hard decision not knowing what may happen in a couple months… Take a medical leave now, see what happens with others and make your decision during your leave.
Not a hard position to fill. Can easilly be replaced by cheap labor in Bangladesh. The work is typically boring to the point where I'm literally taking naps on the clock. However, things pick up fast once the holidays come around, and I start working 10-12 hours per day.
Someone wants to save you. Is your skillset a hard position to fill?

"PIP?"
Performance Improvement Plan. It has been used a lot lately by companies like Meta to put employees in "low performer" category.
PIP?
"Frankly I would wait until they lay you off. Make THEM get rid of you. If you quit or convert to CW, you won’t get a severance and that’s a lot of money you’d miss out on."
Not if he is put on PIP, which is a sport these days at HP to get rid of people without paying them severance. HP is also resorting to relocating people knowing that if they refuse they will get no severance (which is happening in SD).
Frankly I would wait until they lay you off. Make THEM get rid of you. If you quit or convert to CW, you won’t get a severance and that’s a lot of money you’d miss out on.
HP probably does a whole bunch of stuff like this that's against the law and they probably get away with it anyways.

This can't be real and is actually against the law. The OP is just trolling.
"I would divorce yourself from HP altogether. Becoming a CW risks you getting furloughed and removed by HP. "
This.
But the job market is really tough for IT. If you don't have a job lined up convert to CW while very actively looking. Then resign the same day when you get a job.
F*** HP. Right now Enrique is looting the company by giving all the profits to shareholders,
Either choice would require you to resign.
I would divorce yourself from HP altogether. Becoming a CW risks you getting furloughed and removed by HP. Find a smaller company to work for and you’ll see how quickly HP was underpaying you and the missed opportunities at demonstrating your skills.
