Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Uncertainty interrupting the regular flow of work

Uncertainty is very frustrating. I can't focus on my work at all. I would prefer to be told right away that I will be cut, rather than spend days feeling anxious while waiting for bad news.
Productivity has dropped drastically, and how could it not?
Intel obviously does not know how to properly manage the cuts.

Actually managers do get it wrong . Most of the time it’s about who they favor . This actually happened in 2016, lots of talented people got laid off for no fault of theirs.

@1nfd+1jwcMRCM, no, they're going to cut heads like a bull in a china shop. They do not have the competence to do this the right way. Just look at all of the other firings...call it what you will, people are getting fired. Layoffs is just putting it nicely. The BU's will not get their lists up the line in a fast enough manner, so the ELT will revert to their old ways and just guillotine everyone that fits the old method to the detriment of the company...as usual.

Guys, this cut needs to be done carefully and hence taking time , note intel can’t afford to loose good talent and expect to compete so every GM is planning carefully bc if they not then they will be departing in coming year

Yep. Can’t get anyone from finance, legal etc to answer any questions or do any follow-up in last 3 weeks!

No one is doing anything, we’re ALL faking it. Should you be working on your resume or working for Intel?

One thing I do know. If you get put in the pool, that time Is your severance. There will be no internal jobs. You’ll be fooling yourself if you think headcount on your old team will save you. Look outside. Forget this place.

Management expected to work on the headcount reductions in secret for a couple of months, but it got leaked and published and then they had to respond. If not for that, employees would've been hit with this surprise some time later.

Feeling down? Just go back and read about Intel leaders' commitment to world mental wellness week from Oct 10-14, the very same week that the layoff news came out.

It's really who you know and not how well you do your job. Trust me on this. Its buddy system at this company.

There's no easy way to manage layoffs. Twitter employees are dealing with the same cr-p. Think of it this way, even if Intel were to layoff 20% of workers which would be significant, you only need to be top 80% performer to stay. Do you feel you're a top 80% performer? If so, don't stress too much over it. Don't let politics talk to read here affect you. The reality is that it's in the company and managers' best interest to let go of employees that produce least amount of value. Sometimes managers can get it wrong, but not so wrong that they're going to confuse top 50% performer with bottom 20% performer.
