Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3M has lost its way

We also have no culture anymore. We are worried about the d-mbest things instead of having a clear, concise direction. The playbook is just cutting useful jobs while expanding roles that never made sense to begin with. A3M was a disaster and ruined so much. The damage to the plants will never recover and the leadership we have know can't fix this. Before that bCom completely ki-led us... 3M has lost its way and Mike Roman was at the helm.

Well said, @iyn+1l42O5V1.

@1mzi+1l5tw6hR : Trust me, every manufacturing process leaves a lot of $$$ on the table, in some cases, millions! Often, the story gets confusing, because the metrics laid out are focused on the wrong elements. In other cases, people establish a false understanding of what entitlement is, because they only know their own little world of their specific 3M plant. I've seen many cases where someone has stated that something is impossible, where in reality, an adjacent industry/plant/competitor has been doing "the impossible" for decades.

More recently, I've been trying to focus on the areas where things are going very well. There are definitely pockets of people who are working extremely hard to solve the right problems, and making good progress (and in many cases ignoring management's misled metrics). In essence, doing what McKnight said that employees should be encouraged to do. This makes me still hold onto some small shred of optimism, despit the seemingly misdirected and uncoordinated efforts of our executives.

There are some for sure but most stem from inexperienced operators. We pi---d off anyone who could leave or retire and got rid of competency tests and dr-g tests. Now we have people whos only job experience is McDonalds, running coaters while stoned. But A3M and other restructures have it so we also have no floor supervision. Truly sad. We throw so much away...

Realistically how much yield improvement can they expect especially if it is a matured process? Not much blood to be squeezed out of the rock.

Most plants have set targets for yield improvements. It is hard to make everyone realize we are after COGS improvements. That starts at the beginning process and moves forward to product in customers hand.
I have been with 3m for over 3 decades and hate to see the ways our workforce has changed. There is no sense of ownership and our HR protects them.

How d-mb is d-mb at 3M?

In an email, I used the she/he entry and was told that I must add the Zhe for our nonbinary colleagues. If I did this again, was told it could be considered a microaggression. I could be disciplined up to the point of discharge for cause.

I could really care less if people wish to identify as male, female, nonbinary. Live your life as you wish with my full support to be who you want. But the corporatespeak has become like Orwell 1984 newspseak it's no wonder why the company has lost its course.
