Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

How were layoffs decided?

I saw some low performers cut but also a lot of the more top talent was also cut. Yet I still see a lot of bottom of the barrel folks that survived who should not be working as engineers.

MTB loves her DEI hires…..

That just means when another layoff happens, those workers get a check mark not to be touched, & the the 2 college kids to 8 older workers ratio factors in again and is used for the total headcount reduction number.

Don't forget the all important diversity hires...the cornerstone of a well balanced and happy work force in MTB land.

"more parking spaces for 5 day RTO"
Says who?

As usual, someone came up with a $$$ cost number, & GM went after like 598 older workers and 2 college students in Michigan.

Also, they factored in freeing up more parking spaces for 5 day RTO. Not necessarily to improve the smells in the Cole Engineering building bathrooms.

I’ve heard stories also where the younger person that was let go to avoid age discrimination claims got hired back in shortly after the layoff. HR does some shady stuff and isn’t to be trusted imo

Before a layoff is planned, they hire an excess of younger people. They layoff one younger person along with an older one to avoid a age-discrimination lawsuit.

They target older, more experienced, more highly paid, or people who are quiet and the manager is less familiar with/close to, for layoffs.

They keep younger, cheaper, outgoing brown nosers who the manager knows and likes.

Getting rid of experienced people and keeping inexperienced people does wonders for quality.
