XOM salaries - Canada vs US

Are salaries for comparable CLs the same in Canada vs US? Or is Canada lower than US?

I started as CL24 making 115. Now a CL25 making 141. Most new hire engineers are coming in at CL23 making 101. This is downstream USA based global projects and EMRE.

@1mvn+1cmfMWLu good point on the US expat rotators losing all vacation and the buy out. I believe Australia law also prohibited what XOM did to US rotators.

The salary is lower due to supply and demand. there are fewer large oil and gas companies in Canada compared to thousands in US. Also fewer refineries and petrochem plants. Competition in US bids up the salary.

Low intelligence complaints about Biden from low intelligence employees. Shocking.

Comparing only salary is foolish. It is a multi variable comparison you need to do. Employment systems are completely different. Retirement systems are different. Health care systems are different. Tax systems are different. Etc etc

You want to ignore all these differences and focus on a single variable to claim you are treated poorly? That is foolish.

Don’t forget Canada has Earned Days Off (EDOs) on top of their vacation. Expect to earn a little less when you have better employment protection from your government and 32 (I believe that is the EDO #) government mandated days off on top of your 2-6 weeks of vacation.

Also in 2019 when the company took away vacation payment for overseas rotators, they did so for all except for Canadians. Legally could not-not pay them their vacation. Americans straight up lost it. It’s not always better for Americans.

US is more generous with CL's, and similar roles often carry a higher CL in the US vs. Canada (plus there's a larger proportion of higher CL roles too). Salaries at the same CL are generally higher in the US vs. Canada as well. Add up both of those and it makes a significant difference.

Commensurate with the earnings they bring in.

Lower. In Canada, it is hard to break CL 25 if you are downstream/corporate.

It seems like everybody in Houston is CL25+

@1azh Starting CL depends on your organization and job function. Controller undergrads with no experience start out at CL21.

US new hires start at CL 23/24 if experienced. You can do the math yourself.

Its lower because of how expensive it is to do business in CA. and how expensive it is to hire and fire. As you are seeing now.

Canadian is lower, and you start out at a lower CL when hired. It’s a scam. Some ten year engineers in Canada have the same cl as 3 year xom new hires.
