Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Rock bottom morale

Its incredible how low morale has dropped. Management completely destroyed employee trust and morale. I never thought Id see the company in this shape. Company is doing well financially, however. I wonder how low morale is going to impact operations.

@4ggk - so .... now, the REAL Hunger Games begins ? They should sell the rights to pay-per-view !

@2lqi - yep, NJRSC should never have happened (or they should have severely reduced staffing at CSR and moved them down to Paulsboro). That would have kept product development budgets at a constant level and plugged the black ho-e of CSR on company finances. It just shows how out of touch the folks in Dallas are with how the company functions.

@4bzj+1fLOvtrJ generally pretty poor morale, voluntary attrition continues to be high (esp at the 3-5 year grad MPT mark) but as you mention, the word out there is that management see this as a positive. Hiring has resumed but the quality of employees they're taking in has certainly dropped. Complete death spiral

@4bzj+1fLOvtrJ Lots of attrition. In my department, lost people being replaced with contractors, but no change in targets or objectives or strategy. Morale is unclear for me, but engagement and commitment is low. No apparent vision going forward. Supervision and management looking after their own careers continues in my opinion.

Europe is taking more pain I think as we were leaner than NA to begin with.

One thing that the eternal big PIPs and ensuing low morale have brought is an absolute end to any team spirit in the company. All the unsponsored peons are busy stabbing each other in the back to avoid being left without a chair when the music stops in June, while the HiPos sp-t on the peons and fight their fellow HiPos to death for a juicier bit of corporate sinecure.

How is the morale in Europe after the big lay-off last year? Is the voluntarily attrition high? Considering Western Europe is HCC, I am sure management is glad for voluntarily attrition. Although with the PIP, it is not so easy for management to terminate the employment in Western Europe.

Annandale is really bad, management has destroyed the site, employees leaving every week. Loyalty is gone……we should have stayed in Paulsboro…….can you say outsourced?

@pym+1fLOvtrJ correct, The HR VP TG is incompetent and unqualified job. Even HR peeps are scratching their heads over her appt. Only knows what she had to do to get picked up for this job. All in all another example of a soul less bad mgmt. representative who continues to get rewarded for completely mismanaging all aspects of HR since she took job.

Can we drop the #WeAreXom , does leadership really think that moniker has done one bit of good. Leadership is so desperate to develop a cult like mentality within the ranks…

@mnr+1fLOvtrJ That's not the question that was asked, or the point raised in this post.

Confirmed here. Moral is still low. We get smiles when our leaders see the financials, but right below the surface are all the same negative behaviors and assumptions from 1-2 years ago.

I must be on the wrong board, it's pretty miserable where I work in EM!

@vll+1fLOvtrJ - unfortunately it is true. Based on interactions with several colleagues, many are afraid going into the unknown and risk their current "paycheck" at EM...EM didn't pay the best, but also not the worst as well...so a lot of people are staying because of the paycheck, although need to deal with the terrible work culture...

EM's long-time motto is Success depends on Our Employees.
Now - as a Commodity company - we can see continuity at least.
Employees are Commodities.
same as it ever was, then.

The reduction of the number of randoms that my team was receiving has dropped significantly. That creates motivation in our group, although the snack tray empties quicker now.

I have left EM but still in contact with some ex colleagues. From what I heard, morale has improved since company is doing well again and in process of hiring many new employees. Salary increment in 2022 did help to improve the morale. Anyone else can confirm? I also see less Exxodus post on LI these days...

I'm interested in all the down votes for this post. Are you implying morale is great in the company? Please share examples to inspire and motivate the team!

Absent a CEO change, the low morale will continue until when or if a new HR VP steps in, ideally one with proper qualifications and abilities. It is possible to reduce headcount (which will continue until costs are “right sized”) humanely and achieve positive morale with the fewer remaining employees if done professionally. Unfortunately the entire process has been grossly mismanaged, an unforced error.
