Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

9 / 80 has unofficially gone poof!

Chevron has cut so many jobs that everyone is having to work so many hours that basically the 9 / 80 work week has gone poof!

Comments welcomed.

I am a shareholder and I'm glad people take their 9/80s. Shareholders need to start to realize the world does not revolve around them and employees should not be abused to get a few extra cents of dividends. The company pays people for 40 hours a week and they work an extra hour a day for those 9/80 Friday off so they are entitled to take them. As the poster below said don't steal from the company but also don't let the company steal your time either. Those who think work is the #1 priority in life have lost their way.

To @2pbt… who cares if someone can get their work done in a day per week when paid full time? Anyone who owns stock in Chevron should care as it means the company is too stupid to efficiently manage their people resources and is over staffing!!

As long as people get their work done, who cares if they work one day per week? I prefer that over the id--ts who come to the office 10 hours per day but can’t finish anything on time.

I think the reality is that many 9/80 people took EVERY Friday off. When folks will be allowed to work two days remote, bet most people will start working 3 days a week. How many of them will fill their calendars with BS appts on mondays and fridays to make it appear like they’re working? Four day weekends will become the norm instead of three.

Please 1p1h.... staff doesn’t have enough resources—- how dare someone ask you to pitch in and work some 9/80 days. #UnclearOnTheConcept. The work needs to be done

I take my 9/80s off and my 4/20 off. Gary Johnson 2016!

I think what was meant by taking every 9/80 day were those that took every Friday off, not just every other Friday. I have no idea how prevalent this was, but I'm sure it was greater than zero.

"Too many people took every 9/80 day while saying they were too busy to take on additional work. Sorry, some bad actors ruined 9/80 for the others."

That is a profoundly ignorant understanding of how 9/80 days work.

If you you're actually working, then you're putting in 9hrs a day vs. 8. You're working those extra hours so that you can have a 3 day weekend every other week. How the heck are you "abusing or ruining it" for others if you actually take a day off that you have put in the hours for?

The only way you could abuse it is if you were working less than the hours required.

The reality is that many work well over that amount on a daily basis, and the real crime is these folks should be put into a 4/10 schedule rather than 9/80.

Occasionally project and career dictates that you have to do what you need to do to get a project done or advance upwards, and working 9/80s are a part of that, however it should be your choice and pertain to your advancement. It's not your fault that budgetary dollars are not there to hire resources, and no one will be paying you your position & a half for the work you are doing after hours and on your 9/80. Those are you hours to spend with your family and you CANNOT get them back.

Don't ever steal from a company and don't ever let them steal from you. Remember, they are paying you for hours of your life.

Every day at any time is a “work day” in IT. Early in the morning offshore, late at night offshore, Friday’s off catch-up, weekends work, weekdays ceremonies, magic words, and grooming. Blah blah blah blah.

Don't worry. That will soon change. Chevron and all the other oil companies will find themselves hiring in mass again and fighting to get those laid off back. The cycle repeats.

@1mdl, You don't show up for work on your day off after putting in 80+ hrs in 2 weeks? Wow. You should be so proud. Your fellow butthurt losers on the layoffs site salute you.

I have a standing golf game on my Fridays and a lateral to my boss goes also, so I am never there on my day off. I will usually check email that day late afternoon to see if any crisis has emerged that I need to attend to before Monday lunch,

And Chevron management believes its the pandemic and working from home thats destroyed morale. Its stuff like this and all the chaos all of this has caused. Like someone else says 9/80s should be non-negotiable time off as we worked the hours already to get them. Attrition is getting bad as multiple people have left in the past few weeks.

That’s my experience, I can’t take my 9/80 anymore post transition.

Oh, and I did not get laid off. Those of you who want to complain that I’m posting on this board can get bent.

That story is as FALSE as a $3 bill. It’s the 4/10 work schedule that’s gone.

I religiously take my Friday’s off and make clear this is not negotiable even in an emergency. My boss and coworkers know this and offload that nonsense to someone else.

Get ready for more cuts. Not enough cut in US. Look for another purchase and reorg next year. Too many groups have nothing to do.

Have you ever thought that Chevron was not interested in everyone's workload?? Which is way more than a person can handled??

Oh.... and by the way it is going to get worst before it ever gets better.... oops!! It will never get better any time soon!!

I'm OK with it being eliminated. Too many people took every 9/80 day while saying they were too busy to take on additional work. Sorry, some bad actors ruined 9/80 for the others. Also, not using vacation days (though again taking every 9/80 day) became a "badge of honor".
