Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoff 08/16

Atleast 5% of heads are impacted starting Q2. If you're in SBG, Sales, Collab and under MM - Mostly in California might as well plan an exit. Chuck will share more info 08/16 1400 PST.

GSSO looks to have about 7% cuts in the America's. Lots of specialists coming over with the assumption there will be turnover. SS has a lot of pie in the sky dreams along with EC as they bring their buddies over at big $$ salaries. All while letting all these folks go.

Collab is not being touched. Security is being trimmed. End of story.

MM is a failure by any metric. This new Transformation team is a last ditch effort. Which will also fail. She needs to go. Pushing 70, worth million$. Go, now.

@2ppm+1nYOqHGU Agree. Saw a 25 min video of some guy from CX ranting about Cisco's security around Cisco Secure Architecture at Cisco Live. Complete waste of time. He had no idea what he was talking about. Kept confusing "clockwise" with "anti-clockwise" while describing the Industry standards slides, had no clue how the framework progresses. Total output of the session is 25 min of wasted time. Cannot believe they let these uninspiring, mumbling, rambling clowns at Cisco Live in front of prime customers and partners.

Firewalls make up about 35% of both companies overall security revenue (so by far their biggest earner).
Most of Cisco’s are tacked into an existing Data Center deal, whereas PANs are bought on merit alone.
So on some levels makes sense for EC to focus on this.
Whoever is at the helm will lead to layoffs in the Security unit as the products at Cisco aren’t that great or competitors sell something very similar or at a more competitive price.
ISE, Umbrella and Duo are the only security products that most customers give any respect to, and ISE has peaked (and some argue that it isn’t necessary with A Zero Trust architecture). Umbrella is good, but other better priced solutions out there, and similar for Duo (but their sales team isn’t great - I watched a presentation at Cisco Live in Amsterdam, by one of their guys and it had no energy), one of the reasons I recently left Cisco if we’re sending average people to one of our main events what chance have we got.

She is responsible for the upcoming layoff announcements. Her disastrous decisions going into Q3 and now the horrible decision to get rid of specialist teams and make everyone responsible for selling all 30 solutions is going to lead to more layoffs.

The way EC seems to focus on firewalls most, it sounds like Cisco is pivoting back to hardware. The cloud is a fad anyway.

Is SBG moving away from HW based products?

Hoping against hope that they focus on UK SE management. We need a new structure starting from the SED. No more hiring based on wokefullness. Hire people who are good at what they do, irrespective of age, race, gender, colour.

@1lqt+1nYOqHGU Cannot agree any more. Clueless leaders keep on losing the market share and still their job secured with big fat bonus. CR is too soft to JP/JK, none of previous SVPs/VPs survived more than 2 years when they were not doing anything good to Webex.

I believe this based on the tasks I’m being requested to complete. Noting everyone’s projects, ranking performance, the push to hire APJC contractors and still no backfills in North America.

Webex is not the go-to product on the market. It’s one of the more disorganized and least user friendly platform with more frequent crashing than Zoom and Teams and probably even Skype.

Again, it's just for US only. No other region, APJC, EMEA are not to be affected. Hew!

8/16 is the Q4 earnings call. Why would Cisco not wait until the Q1 call to announce Q2 layoffs? It would give Cisco the chance to provide the illusion they didn't know these people should have gone in the Q4 layoff so it's all "new" and "responding to market conditions."

Instead of getting rid of JP who has proven on numerous occasions he doesn't have a clue how to regain lost marketshare, let's cut into software development. That's going to work really well.

SBG and Collab Directors and VPs are making their lists, no one is safe.

If there was a cut in Collaboration it would have been done in Q1. Why wait to Q2? Does not make sense. Plus they already cut Collaboration in December.

Sales org is big. 5% across the board?

Collab and Calling were impacted in the past layoff. I know some folks add saw more on LinkedIn back in December. Cisco, said it is was not about cost cutting, but it was. Lies will catch up to them.

@omm+1nYOqHGU If you’ve ever used Slack, or even Teams, you’ll quickly realize Webex is hot garbage.

Security Sales and Engineering layoffs will be a part of the reorganization to get rid of specialist teams that was announced last Thursday.

Collab is lost. First to Zoom, and ultimately to Microsoft. MSFT collab used to be terrible 5-10 years ago and has now become good-enough. It is very rare for Cisco to win a handset or calling deal these days. Webex survives on renewals at this point, but that is declining. Like a lot of things, a web meeting is a commodity now.

There is no way Collaboration is impacted. It is one of the technologies that we are focusing on this year.
