Has it always been this…broken here?

I just can’t believe the level of dysfunction across the company. Has it always been this way? How long can it last?

The morale is at the bottom right now. We are making a lot of money yet employees are getting squeezed left and right. With high oil profits layoffs should not remotely be talked about. The executives get paid big money yet the employees keep suffering. Things are falling apart her fast and those at the helm are steering us towards the iceburg

I think, to operate internationally every O&G company has to align itself to EESG goals. And in developing that resiliency the company needs to do certain "new" things. However the implementation of that, in our Hipots' hands, has gone extremely wild in cvx. The Governance part of the EESG is dreary at best. This has destroyed the work culture and made it a so called woke culture.

The #1, biggest difference from the past is back then Chevron was unified in its strategy and goals, to be an oil company. People succeeded, both individually and as teams, in that environment, and it didn't matter what you looked like. Now we have lost our focus, trying to embrace whatever today's buffet of 'energy technologies' happens to be in favor on social media. Of course, there's also the rampant social engineering, which has met its 'goals', but handicapped the company with ill-prepared and inexperienced 'leaders' in the name of equality. Given the green pressure (and SR's acceptance of it), it's not clear what Chevron will look like in 10 years.

The occurrence of layoffs is no different than in the 80's and 90s when things were better as far as reserves and demand. So scratch that off your list, it's absurd to think otherwise. Now the availability of talent, particularly old hands to seek help from and rely upon, well that is one major difference that the younger new guard cannot seem to get their heads around and deal with. There are ways to learn the old tech, combine it with the new tech and make something of it. But it takes a lot of hard work and diligence, not wasting time on social media and surfing opinion sites. That willingness to dedicate the hard work and diligence is what is missing today. That's the main difference.

@1tdd - Yes there are some good things. The good "things" are some of the people, who I enjoy working with and the technical work where I can use my expertise to design / troubleshoot something. But most of the management is crummy, no credit for achieving better results, no linkage between my efforts and progression, finally the endless supply of brown nosing and buzzword spewing drones, continuously hogging every possible avenue where we can speak about this broken culture.

Definitely has become a less employee friendly company over the last 10 years. Rumors of reorgs and layoffs when oil is $90/bbl. Chevron has become an unstable employer.

Wrong @1lmm, quite the opposite. It used to be 500% better. This decline in morale and fairness in Chevron fell off the cliff at least 10 or 12 years ago and gets worse each year. I’m so blessed and happy to have served 30 wonderful years with Chevron, but now gone since 2016. I lived the best years on the job anyone could dream of.

Be specific on the dysfunction you see . I think many things are so nowadays and feel it was better when I joined over a decade ago. It’s gone woke a bit and still not a lot of accountability . But there are some good things too
