Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Rumors at Explore?

Anybody hearing anything different or more specific than what we’ve been seeing thus far?

Hurricane Hillary flooded Las Vegas on the first day of Explore and it was a sign from God that Explore would be a wash out.

I am in a group that had layoffs at VMware earlier this year and affecetd employees met 1:1 with our function's director, it was not a group layoff call a la Greg and Tom in Succession

Another Ops colleague confirmed that he received an invite for his group concerning layoffs and ask me anything type of thing

It was about layoffs. Essentially provided the group with the information people here have been aware of in regards to the three options and made clear expectation will be 5 days a week in office.

No specific date provided, but we were told to that notifications will likely start in September. Unknown if currently legitimate remote workers will be permitted to remain that way in either transition or permanent positions.

@1ldw+1oeVXpkw Come on then, don't keep us in suspense, what was this definitely not fake meeting about today?

"Does VMware really need 38 thousand employees?"

Wrong question. Instead, does BC want to inherit a bunch of VMW employees?

We all know the answer, and what comes next. Brace yourself...

Post from TheLayoff.com

Asking if while people are at explore (speaking to colleagues, going to parties, having drinks with coworkers, etc.) have any new rumors come up that this board hasn’t yet seen?

I’ve seen several layoffs here. They always do a team huddle right after they speak to the affected individuals. And it’s always scheduled abruptly.

Both are large team meetings with innocuous titles. "Catch up with [director]" tomorrow

Sounds just like another useless netting, not an indication you are getting fired.

Don’t waste your time attending.

Does VMware really need 38 thousand employees?

Yes. Yes, they do.

Search Slack for the Periodic Table of VMWare and you'll learn how many services and products VMW produces.

"The other guy", totally not me agreeing with myself. My Canadian girlfriend agrees with him as well.

Both are large team meetings with innocuous titles. "Catch up with [director]" tomorrow and "[org name/Geo] town hall" with Sr Director. No topics, no agenda, not previously planned. Confirmed via IM with director topic of discussion is layoffs.

No expectation we'll be given a list or dates but layoffs are the topic.

The other guy is right. Layoffs are a part of the industry. There have been plenty in the past and there will be more in the future. It's part of your job to keep your skills and CV update to date. Do not worry about things you cannot control.

The rumor is that cockroaches will be cut, others will be spared.

Yeah, that's how it works, they tell each person individually one at a time via a meeting with their manager to maximize panic. That certainly wouldn't take way too long, great plan, we all believe you and your team got meetings lined up :D The lies are getting less and less believable.

[ Good One ] - cockroach

"No you didn't :D why would you make sh-t like that up? You're pathetic. Go back to your hole and stop trying to scare people you insignificant little cockroach"

[[ Who cares - whatever happens will happen. At 20+ years in my career this kind of thing happens and we will all survive. For a newbie out of school it might be a bit nerve racking etc. You little cockroach!

@1ldw+1oeVXpkw Is this a new rumor or what? What are these meetings? Are they from HR? What makes you think they are about lay offs.

Not from Explore, but my team just got two calendar invites for tomorrow and Thursday that are certainly related to upcoming layoffs.
