Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Boeing and transparency

I’ve worked at a few big corporations, but I’ve never seen leadership this paranoid about sharing information. We’re left guessing all the time while major decisions get made behind closed doors. It constantly creates this weird tension across teams. People don’t speak up because they know it won’t matter. No surprise the company keeps getting sideswiped.

I don't think so. BA HR chief used to be general counsel for BDS and a former federal prosecutor. I believe she would know better.

Well let me tell you about AT&T. We had a vp who would give us a nice all hands once I a while telling us how great everything was. There would be lots of management jargon and charts but being new to the company and having fresh eyes, I noticed the charts don’t have labels. Just a bunch of numbers and lines going up. People were sh-t scared to even ask and they couldn’t think about what would happen if they asked. I sensed trouble and went to work for another company. Two months later the whole team was laid off.
Management can hide division troubles by varying the chart scales.

I must agree with the mushroom management. First time I have ever heard this metaphor. Dead on accurate.

In regards to sharing information, I worked on one program where BA acquired 4 companies, and they all were working under one roof. All of these previously separate companies were all empire-building. It led to confusion and subterfuge. The program was a snakepit. Like Indiana-Jones underground map room filled with venomous asps snakepit. Never again. You could not pay me enough to work for BA. What a cluster.

I've never worked at a company with so many personality disordered people before. I believe the corruption and malfeasance is linked to personality disorders.

They only care about the short term what their bonus will be since they can generally retire after a couple years. That’s why Boeing strategies always been so short term spending billions of dollars in stock by backs just to inflate your bonus so you can retire wealthy.

One of the big problems with the company is corporate strategies based on maximizing, immediate executive bonuses, and not what’s in the long-term best interest of the company

Give A Damn! Mushroom Management!

"Mushroom management" is a metaphor for a negative management style where employees are kept in the dark about important information and decisions, similar to how mushrooms are grown, being kept in the dark and periodically fed manure. This lack of transparency can lead to a variety of negative consequences for the organization and its employees
