Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Dyneon Sale?

My little birds are telling me that a sale of Dyneon/fluoropolymers business is being actively explored. The information I have is that at least one potential buyer has started into the due diligence process.

I'm actually a bit surprised that anyone would consider taking on the liability risk, but it appears there are at least two possible buyers out there. Given 3M's statements on the future of fluoropolymers/PFAS a sale is an interesting route to consider.

What I don't know is if 3M or the other parties initiated the sale discussion. I'm very interested in that answer if anyone knows.

The special seed stash is not special. It is what the CEO and VPs eat on a daily basis.

I agree this would be a very puzzling move, and I definitely wouldn't be a buyer. I'm just passing along what I've heard.

It is very possible a few of my birds did find the 'special seed' stash. However the information I received was too high of quality not to share.

The liability angle has me interested as well. It wouldn't really shield 3M and would put the buyer into liability, unless 3M agreed to indemnify.

This is absolutely false. There will be no divesting, selling off anything tied to PFAS. In addition they aren’t selling off the IP. Full stop. Gendorf will be closed by end of 2025.

Yup, not selling the Dyneon fluoropolymers business. It was proven by DuPont’s spin of Chemours that selling or divesting doesn’t shield from the liability. Although the global demand for fluoropolymers is robust and their use is ESSENTIAL, recent regulatory actions in EU and US are making it very prohibitive to be in this business. Besides, selling the fluids portion of the fluorochemicals business (Novec) is far more attractive to a potential buyer.

My understanding was that we WILL NOT be selling off anything involving FC production due to fears of the purchasing company being and 3M continuing to take the blane.. I also find it hard to believe they would allow any outside source(other than government) to get their hands on the properties due to the contaminations.. I would think that they would keep them just to keep any testing to happening that they aren’t in control of..Hard to imagine them “moth balling” productive plants and just walking away though. The assets have to be worth hundreds of millions..
