Not in the United States unless you went to Columbia. MO. OR managed a large team of over 5 people and then could take an IC role.

Otherwise - you would have had to apply for the position on GOM prior to being notified of your layoff

I was offered a role in a couple of other teams and ended up accepting one of those. All in all though, this was the kick in the backside I needed to get myself up put myself out there for different opportunities. Never had less than an above average rating and consistent exceed objective expectations.

I’ve seen a few people get rescinded depending on the situation. I’ve also seen people RA’d and come back the next qtr and they’ve kept their severance. I’m surprised IBM doesn’t have some sort of rule about that or something.

@1jtc+15EQpp5z I don't think what you are saying is completely accurate.

I have heard of few cases where IBM retracted the proposal based on the response provided by the employee.

I've know of someone who had their notice extended to 90 days so they could train their replacement based in Eastern Europe. I've know of someone who took the Columbia offer and will be moving there soon.

Was that person in Australia? I have heard of a similar case in Australia...

Yes I have a colleague that was on the chopping block, however his separation was redacted via formal email because he actually found multiple opportunities, and accepted one.

I've heard of people get the opportunity to move to a different unit instead of severence. I've heard of someone who had their notice extended to 90 days. I've heard of someone who took the Columbia offer who had the ability to continue searching internally in the meantime.

No, the offer of writing a response to counteract their proposal to retract is just a show of fake "consultative" approach. So then they can say they have seeked your opinion as well. Both parties agreed.
