Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Planning to quit?

I wonder how many people at Oxy intend to quit very soon or by the end of this year? Will there remain anyone who is talented and capable? I hope that none of my colleagues will quit because Oxy doesn't seem to care that these people need to be replaced and it's getting harder to work for those of us who remain. On the other hand, I'm glad when great people manage to get out of here. If I'm failing to find a good alternative for myself, I can be happy for them at least.

Also depends on whether you are in a BIPOC category.

You can be a jerk to your coworkers and still be a highly rated employee. The two are not related and besides the bosses never see this side of these jerks. Being a jerk eventually catches up with people because what goes around comes around.

'I now some that get a pass daily as they continue to be jerks to their co-workers.'

Great advertisement for the talented and good employees at Oxy. No wonder the OP is asking this question, but he doesn't realize talent left Oxy 10 years+ ago.

From what I have seen in more than a decade here, is the poor performers are given a few years to catch up. Eventually anybody with performance, mental or teamwork issues is gone in less than 4,5 years. Like justice system, tardy; but arrives one day. Yes, employees are not being replace when leave.

Some managers would rather let people stay than deal with pips and watching people get angry at them because they are losing their job. It is just the path of least resistance until underperforming employees start being a drag on the organization. The questions about performance need to be asked at the next level above the manager. But ultimately it is the managers job to take care of performance issues.

OP, you are definitely a weird and sad person. Good luck with your career and life.

@1xi - sorry kiddo, but you need to realize that Managers make decisions, not HR. Managers allow useless workers to stay on. It’s their decision, not HR. Managers brush it off and allow people to stay.

There have always been non-performers. It is amazing that many received bonuses.

Depends on who you work for and with. My supervisor is great and most of my co-workers. If I leave it would be because HR allows useless workers to stay on, and they drain the rest of us. We have plenty of talent and many good leaders, but the non-performers suck a lot of the energy out of teams. I now some that get a pass daily as they continue to be jerks to their co-workers. HR just brushes it off to make their quotas and lets the cancer eat away. Stop protecting the non-performers.
