Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Private Appointment email

If you got a Private Appointment email with verbiage like ‘…please do not share this with others’ that is set for tomorrow you are likely …. safe?

If you didn’t, you are likely …. gone?

I got it, three people I know didn’t. IM’d my MD, … crickets.

Is this it? Tomorrow?

Maybe the attendees are the ones being laid off.

40 minutes into the meeting and no leaks? No summary? No reply? Yet we all expected to have a large group of people in the meeting. One he-l of a scare tactic they must have used to keep people quiet.

Taking a restroom break now. How appropriate. It’s a shitshow.

Start a new thread?

Or should those in the meeting start multiple threads?

Go with a bit of a “swarm” tactic?

Comments disappearing most likely troll posts

Which is good. It’s happened before with other blatant lies and trolling

@1wvd+1pfBzb3i They can block a lot of that stuff very easily by just changing the settings in WebEx.

You can actually control what it is participants see and do fully so I’d imagine all those settings are off

There was a comment here a minute or two ago that said they were in the meeting and typing notes on the side and would update - and now it is gone?!!?!

Are you able to see who all is in the meeting? Now that it started? Or at least how many are attending?

@1kzo+1pfBzb3i I'm quite certain if the Dir-PL is being let go he would NOT have that meeting today. It's for Dir-PLs that have people in their org being impacted.

I see a D-PL who I'm fairly certain (close to 100%) is being let go does not have that time blocked. Make of that what you will.

@1rdv+1pfBzb3i What’s the difference between sr manager and manager? You’d think that Sr Manager is higher but I’ve seen sr manager PL under Manager before… seems like some of the so called Sr managers are PLs but most are level 4 devs…

@1yhg+1pfBzb3i definitely get's it! This was the stupidest thing that Schwab has ever done making everyone a "Manager". Everyone is not a manager, and now you don't even know who the fu-k you are talking to when trying to escalate requests or do planning with other teams. It's ok if not everyone is equal in title...good grief.

@1izp+1pfBzb3i a bunch of STS Directors have the invite, but I've also heard it's not just STS PLs that got it.

Is this only STS or are people from other groups invited?

What teams have more managers than devs? I haven't seen that yet. I'm a PL and have 2 dev teams and 30 directs (including some contractors). The same goes for some of my peers. We are far from "more managers than devs".

@wpg+1pfBzb3i Funny how that can happen when some teams have more managers than devs.

@1uhi+1pfBzb3i Or you're safe and your PL is not

@1fud+1pfBzb3i Reorg and layoff go hand in hand. If teams are merging, then they definitely would be redundant roles from both teams.

So if my PL didn't get the meeting but my MD did then it seems either my PL and I are both gone....or neither and both safe, I'm assuming both are safe. I don't know that that settles anything for me yet, but either we're both going down with the ship, or we're both on a life raft.

Just a speculative thought, but what if it has nothing to do with layoffs and instead everyone who received an email, their team is about to report to a different manager?

STS Dir. I see the invite this morning. It’s for 11AM CT and it’s a private invite, hidden recipients, can’t forward. Also, it’s specifically regarding the people actions. That’s all I know.

Last week, all MDs got an invite to this same "org planning" meeting. They were explicitly told that it was a blanket invite so it didn't mean anything regarding their continued employment or other. This new invite, it was specifically for the PLs that need to lay people off in their org. If you didn't get, well, there are a couple different interpretations you could make. HR is stupid tacky to try to pinpoint this round of invite and not expect it to go viral. Good job, HR. Best of luck to those in the trenches.

@1wlx+1pfBzb3i Nobody is spreading rumors mate. I personally know of seven STS Directors that got that invite for tomorrow. I think you’re the one spreading rumors because you clearly don’t know what the fu-k you’re talking about.

@vtg+1pfBzb3i: 100% correct. PLs that are being laid-off themselves wont be informed of layoffs under them. They’ll have a level up or parallel PL conduct the meetings for their impacted people. So basically if you're a PL and been officially informed of the event, you’re safe this round. If not, either you’re impacted, or you won’t be giving notice to anyone.

I’m in the branch network and I got the invite. I think it’s great this aligns with engagement surveys. Two thumbs up Schwab! (sarcasm)

Not fully correct. Director and higher got the invite but ONLY if 1> they're staying themselves AND 2> have impacted people

Leaders with people getting laid off received the meeting invite. If you didn’t get the invite you aren’t a people leader, or your team isn’t affected.
