Another reason to turn down the assignment to move to Midland or Carlsbad. Home prices! Home prices in Midland are much more expensive than Houston. Difference being that Houston home prices are increasing dramaticaly right now while Midland prices are slowly declining. After a couple of years in Midland you will be priced out of the housing market in Houston.

Houston socks, midland socks even worse, ExxonMobil socks worse than both. Go find another job anywhere else but in those two locations.

There are plenty of reasons to not want to live to midland, but home prices being higher than Houston isn’t true. Midland has one of the most buyer friendly housing markets in the country right now.
Houston home prices are not increasing drastically if you look at what is happening at the rest of the country. We are all losing money living in Houston forcing us to stay here forever.
Too bad you couldn't afford to keep your house in Houston and buy one in Midland like all the people who made the decision to cut the cost of living adjustment have.
