3M Earplug Lawsuit Update - 9/15/2022

The two-day settlement talks begin today. 3M has a choice. Settle these cases or start the next wave of trials next month - starting with David George's trial - that could lead down a path where 3M has to declare a very different kind of bankruptcy this time.

To Mr.Anonymous that wants to be thanked for everything from bandages to electricity. Let me ask you did you and your family sleep well in your beds last night? Did you have to worry about an invading force waking you up dragging you out of those beds? Did you, your kids, family members, wives, other loved ones get selected in a draft? Have you had to leave your family for 12-15 months, only to see them for 2 weeks? Did your loved ones worry about getting a knock at the door from someone saying that you weren’t coming home from work? Look at your work buddies can you say that there is a chance that you might have to deal with one or several not making it home to their families if you don’t perform your job perfectly and you have to live with that for the rest of your life? Are you able to make your opinions known without fear of punishment? So thank you so much for everything you want to be thanked for. I do appreciate having certain things that 3m manufactures. I wonder if 3m didn’t manufacture these items would another company step up and manufacture them instead? I would hazard to guess most likely. Maybe a company that isn’t so dishonest? One that doesn’t poison our water and planet? One that doesn’t try to cover up vital information? One that isn’t facing quite so many lawsuits because they do things the right way not the most profitable way no matter who or what it hurts? I am a veteran who does have proof of my hearing disability. I did utilize these earplugs. I personally do not want veterans who are after a quick buck with no disabilities to prosper from this. I have also performed factory work and can sort of relate to 3m employees. I do not hold any animosity towards anyone that had no part in covering this up. Hard workers like the majority of you help keep this economy rolling. However it will be a cold day in he-l before I grovel at a manufacturer worker’s feet thanking them for doing their job that I’m sure they get compensated well for. When honestly I have been reading a majority of posts on here putting my battle buddies down when maybe they should be the ones being thanked for their service. How about you trade places for a few months with them? Make sure when you do that you put a special request in for those earplugs.

Casey Rodgers may or may not be corrupt, but there has to be something behind how this landed in her back yard, and the lead plaintiff also happens to employ not just one of her former clerks, but also her daughter. I am surprised more of this has not come out. If this next case seems at all unbalanced, it will tell the story as to what is really going on here.

Why don't you give them your pension then?

I’m a current 3Mer and I’m absolutely appalled by the comments on here. It doesn’t matter if 98% of the stuff worked and the 2% didn’t. If 3M knowingly sold faulty or defective equipment, we are responsible.

What if you bought a car for a loved one and the 2% that didn’t work was the brakes? If a loved one died because of faulty brakes and the manufacturer said to you, “Yea, but the 98% did work so kick rocks… we’re not responsible.” How would you feel? Based on your argument, they have the right to shrug and tell you to pi-s off. Because the car frame, seatbelts, airbags and other safety equipment worked JUST FINE. Bummer about those brakes though.

If you’re one of the 3Mers that believes these are mostly nuisance suits just because senior leadership said so — you should be fired for a lack of critical thinking skills. Whether it’s one “nuisance” suit or 100K, if just one soldier or veteran experienced a product failure that cost them their hearing - we have a moral obligation to make things right.

I think you owe the Iraqis for everything you did to them since there were no WMDs there. I don't care if someone above you made the decision, YOU will pay for it. No pension for you. No benefits for you. How do you like it?

“Were you protected by Ceradyne armor? You're welcome.”

Didn’t 3M acquire the company in 2012? And isn’t that the same time US Special Operations Command found the some of SPEAR Gen3 plates to be faulty? Seeing a pattern here.

Casey Rodgers is totally corrupt. Crooked. Her incompetent rulings will NEVER stand up on appeal. Greedy veterans will get NOTHING.

Were you protected by Ceradyne armor? You're welcome.
Were you wounded in action and didn't get an infection because of surgical drapes, bandages and tapes? You're welcome.
Do you, or someone you know, have a pacemaker? You're welcome.
Did the military you served in have state of the art electronics? You're welcome.
Did you have electricity at your base camp? You're welcome.
We don't blame ALL of the veterans for things like Abu Ghraib but you have the cajones to blame ALL of us for things 98% of us had nothing to do with?! Take a hike.

Bankruptcy will only sc--w the shareholders, many of whom have already dumped their shares to bargain hunters. Also, employees who didn't take their pension in lump sum. But the company will survive chap 11. And the greedy lawyers and their whining veterans who are lying about hearing loss get maybe 25k. Cry me a river.

You pieces of cr-p don't understand that ruining our lives won't make your lives better nor will it bring back your hearing.

"Go crawl back to whatever rock you came from."

This type of anger is what we have come to expect from 3M employees. They've been working for a substandard firm for decades; missing revenue targets, poisoning ground water, and harming veterans has brought out their true colors. Sick people who do nothing but lash out and blame everyone except Mike Roman. You need psychological help.

3M just needs to pony up 30 billion and quit lowballing, if they don't get serious soon it will cause bankruptcy. It amazes me how inept 3M leadership and attorneys have been. 25-30 billion is the magic number here,

Dear 1rn:

Sorry - I have significant loss from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan using these exact plugs. My guess - you didn't serve.

Imagine.

Why do you plaintiffs lawyers feel the need to come onto this site and drive fear for employees who are just concerned about their jobs and ability to take care of their families now and in retirement? If you think they can somehow influence management, read the rest of the posts, clearly, management does not listen. You must take some glee in tearing down what other people create. You know that the majority of these veterans have no hearing loss. You ran your tv ads and internet campaigns to get huge numbers to sign up. Why did so many get dismissed vs go to trial? You are the sc-m of the earth, playing off the misery of others. You wrap yourself in a cloke of “helping the injured” but all you want is your 30%. Go crawl back to whatever rock you came from.

3M will definitely end up bankrupt and the plaintiffs will have to get in line. Veterans will never accept less than 30 or 40B and 3M would rather take their chances in bankruptcy court than cripple the company with that kind of a payoff. Plaintiffs will get little or nothing and 3M will end up BK.
