Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Cost allocation to BTC

I was once told the BTC doesn’t have central costs allocated to them making them look artificially cheaper and other sites artificially more expensive. Any truth to this?

The Standard Research Agreement (SRA) does not apply to our India Bangaluru Technology Center.

The lower day rate for Bangaluru encourages our refineries and chemical plant managers to engage our India engineering staff and minimize the high-cost day rates in HC10 countries.

This is completely obvious. Their billing rate hasn't changed since they were mobilised years ago. I guess nil inflation in India, no incremental ex pats, and no payrises in India for that duration...

Seems like another example of management cooking the books to get the answer they want.

Yes it is true. It was true for KLTC and it is true for BTC.

@1ost+1qyeIi94 And yet there are some very disturbing cultural issues in India as well.

@1eaz What’s your point?

Companies regularly file patents as a legal strategy or to rope off access to IP. Tech companies have entire departments dedicated to filing patents for these same reasons.

I guess you’re trying to say “Look! We can make shiny new stuff too! See! Na-na-na-na-na!”

@1him

Why don't you look up the number of patents XOM owns on catalyst, extraction, refining, geo ...etc.

Then again, you are just a troll, so go on....say some other useless cr-p while I pour myself a glass of wine.

@1imq XOM is not a world-class tech company staffed by elite talent. Good point, bad comparison.

@1gic Why do you keep saying this on every thread?

I can personally guarantee that you’re wrong on at least two counts.

Everything is being done, and will continue to be done, to make sure the offshoring strategy is shared upwards as a resounding success. If that includes inconsistent treatment and positive financial discrimination, that will be supported and endorsed.

I think senior XOM managment has some disconnect in logic thinking they can get a baby in a month with 9 women.

There is a reason why Apple products is engineered in USA, made in China / India. Doing it the otherway around is just plain reckless.

@1vig+1qyeIi94 Make that 4. She’s special and thinks it’s not obvious but she’s back again. Another fine example of xx management

Most of the jobs at EMHC should be outsourced to low cost locations, period. I am glad the company is doing the right thing.

Three posts in a row from the same anti US troll pretending to be three different responses. Three purely racist responses. The OP was a legitimate question.

This is a legit question, that someone is trying to bury in racist manner.

OP is correct. BTC pays for 0 of broader EM costs. They don’t even cover their expat supervision. That means your functional orgs, your VPs, your buildings… those are all born by the shrinking HC10 population. This is also why the BTC can give out 20% raises and keep that bill rate low.

This is nothing to do with race… just management keeping their finger on the scales to artificially boost what they want.

And, kudos to OP for asking, as our management has no transparency and hides all of the India strategies.

@mxn Management doesn’t give AF what you think or what you say.

I was against outsourcing until I worked in O&G. After having dealt with you racist, entitled douchebags in EMHC and elsewhere, I now think every job that isn’t at a plant or in the field should be sent to BTC, and you should all either be sent back to process facilities or kicked off the payroll entirely.

@mxn It was a rhetorical question.

I know what your problem is with BTC; they’re not white.

“I’m not racist! I’m just being objective!”

Maybe and no. You don’t complain as much or as hard when they bring in white people from places like Canada, and you don’t complain at all about the white guys setting the actual policies that lead to these outcomes.

Non-rhetorical query: what do those of you who sit in EMHC (the ones doing all the whining) do that you consider to be “highly skilled” ? Do you really think you’re special for rubber-stamping technical specs and making graphs in Excel?

You just are a white privileged racist. Hiding behind made up stories. It’s pathetic, you are pathetic. Just for your knowledge, Google India and its history. It has richer history and has many smart people that help the world. I feel so sorry for the BTC folks who have to deal with racist, hate spewing folks like you who are rooting for their failure. That they are successful despite people like you says enough for management. If we replace folks like you who don’t understand basic economics and supply demand of talent, then it would be even better. I hope you are, as you said, as open about your opinion to upper management as you are here. Would be easier to identify you and replace you. You are just a wasteful human. Do you difference between you and a garbage truck, the truck.

@xsv

So guess the company's policy of "see something, say something" is just garbage then. What's the attrition rate in BTC again?

Guess you guys are really taking your own advice to heart. We like to voice our concerns and ensure company has a prosperous future (well, at least avoid a slow train wreck anyways).

What’s with all the whining about BTC all of a sudden?

Here’s a suggestion: if you don’t like the business decisions made by management then Go 👏 Work👏 Somewhere 👏 Else👏. It really is that simple.
