Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I feel like a fool

I trusted the leadership when they said there would be no RTO and I trusted them when they said we're safe from layoffs. Now I feel like a complete fool. I honestly thought I worked for one of the better companies that treated its employees right. Thanks, Schwab, for proving me wrong in the worst possible way.

If it’s more than 5%/$500M then use it as an opportunity to sell the stock if this move gooses the price.

I don’t understand why people in STS stick to their positions beyond 5 years. IT is not a career anymore and is just a job

Reminder: 2019 Layoffs (4 Yr Anniversary coming up Sept 18th!) and 2020 Layoffs were double secret (AND Inverted Pryamid), #bettingerbodycount prefers that method. Word is that it will be more than 5% / $500 mmmmiiiilllion, and that Word is coming from MDs who had to rank their depts. #bettingerbodycount will get on CNBC after and say, ‘Okay we’re done’ … until the next time.

Some of y'all have never worked minimum wage at the dollar tree and it shows. I've been through layoffs before and Schwab has a good offer at least they are not going to pull an Elon ma (yes I'm referring to Chinese Elon because he's way cooler then the real Elon musk) on our as-es. Honestly it might be better to get laid off instead on staying on a sinking ship. Get your swimsuits on and your lifejackets ready cuz we about to go for a swim. Hopefully it's not the whole US economy crashing this time like back in 08

I would have been fine with RTO if I wasn’t given a bunch of lies beforehand that I could move where I wanted, hire where I wanted, and it wasn’t a problem because remote work was the way forward at Schwab.

I would have been fine with RTO if they acknowledged something like “hey we were wrong” instead of pretending that the things they said in the past didn’t exist.

I would have been fine with RTO if Renee didn’t have that completely tone deaf, insensitive, and downright mean “shake it off like a dog” call, talking about how important it was to be in the office (while having the call from her beach house in the Carolinas).

Fu-k Schwab. Fu-k the EC.

Lets be realistic for a min, things change. The economy has changed drastically and these companies, all of them, follow each other. As soon as you see one publicly announce something, expect the rest to follow suit. This applies to RTO and layoffs, while its perfectly fine to feel betrayed, its been the way of Corp America, these companies are only loyal to their bottom line, their share holders and their board of directors.

I also believed we’d never RTO, I made life decisions around this fact after they promised over and over again they wouldn’t reverse the workplace flexibility program, even encouraged us to relocate to anywhere that would make us happiest. For me it’s them now saying they never promised this and RTO was always going to happen at some point….. well, if that’s true then why are they now in a real estate crisis with not enough space to put everyone? If RTO was always the goal why hire people who don’t have a desk to one day return to? For me it’s the lying to us and assuming we aren’t smart enough to see through the lies. Now layoffs I always knew were coming, no merger happens without layoffs, there’s overlap and redundancy, for me it’s the announcement MONTHS in advance which did nothing but cause even more anxiety and tank morale to the lowest I have ever seen in my 13 years at Schwab. I personally feel betrayed by the lies and the insults to my intelligence. I hate this company now. It’s highly unlikely I’m on the layoff list which is unfortunate for me as I am leaving anyway, severance would have been nice. I deserve better than some company that jerks around their employees and treats them like sh-t with all of these sick mind games they’re playing. I would never trust them again. Ever. Fu-k the EC.
