Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Hearing Rumors on Georgia Innovation Center potentially closing

Has to do with reallocating $$$$$$$$ to the California Innovation Center.

Does not make any sense because GM is paying to renovate the GIC.

I’d laugh if Queen Mary closes the Warren Tech Center. The whole company would probably go belly up.

California needs to be isolated from Michigan management for it to be successful.

GM has old fashioned industrial management and culture and they need modern software startup management and culture.

Or they're going to be failures like Cruise.

I wouldn’t be surprised if GIC gets eliminated.

At the same time, in agreement with @1h1+1k1waxpcb, the Ireland Innovation Center is living on borrowed time. It will be axed within the next 8 months.

GM wants to pour more money into its west coast developers.

GM will do it by batches in-order to avoid submitting WARN notices to the state of Georgia and Texas.

Eventually, they will include Ireland Innovation Center since there's no leadership presence there anymore as TB left

But not very well.

GIC was always treated on an off-shore development staff that spoke good English

Georgia isn't known for autos or high tech.

The only reason to have the office is to attract students from the east coast who didn't want to move to Michigan or Texas.

@dp+1k1waxpcb is right.

As GM moves more toward cloud computing, a horde of stuff is going by by; more and more people’s jobs will be gone.

Anyone who thinks their so-called data science degree is going to save them will be having a rude awakening. With outsourcing making a comeback, those jobs will be going overseas back to Asia as well, for cheaper pay.

All in all, GM will just dig themselves into a deeper hole and make “Silos” a company standard.

Idk about closing, but there will be consolidation away from GIC

GA has been on borrowed time for years.

It never made much sense.

It wouldn’t surprise me. They only want to pay the so-called CA software developers 200k+/ year. GM just wants to use their so called SLT common sense and make more bad decisions……
