Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Why is STATE FARM going external to look for team managers in claims ?

do we not have qualified candidates within state farm to take on management roles? From what I have heard there are a lot of people who are marked ready who are getting discouraged because they are not being given opportunities to interview or move up. It’s a slap in the face after working to get yourself positioned for a promotion to see the company turn their back on you and go outside to hire.
Just another disappointment from the farm.

SF gets into this "cruel to the employee" issue where they dont want to promote from within because of how understaffed claims stays. So they try as best they can to fill roles externally, that way they dont take good workers from another struggling department to fill a role in another struggling department. No one think about the guy passed over leaving being a huge part of the insane turnover however.

Once the executives are done gutting the company and culture with six sigma BS that ruined GE for a few years of short term profits, maybe then we can return to staffing properly and caring about the employee (beyond just emails saying they do at least)

Issues wont go away until the business model is abandoned for one that isnt proven to wreck the company long term.

... Outside candidates aren't subject to a pension. Doesn't take a genius to see everything they have done since 2015 is about saving money and squeezing productions at ALL COST.

Getting back to OP's question...The reason SF is hiring external TMs is the same reason they started hiring external CA/CS in Claims. SF can save money by hiring new employees at a lower base rate and reduced benefits instead of promoting existing TMs at a much higher rate.

Most of the external they bring (as upper management) on are married or have tight relationships - Keep the mines flowing in the circle and family. It starts with HR too. Reputable companies don’t do that. It’s common place at SF

@1gvi If you look at RA2/RA3 OT eligible CS versus an ILR/Express MG2 TM, I think their comparison is pretty reasonable.

@jrc+1dXm14AP Please tell me how as a CS you can make more than a TM? Unless you are a 30 year employee and your TM is a 5 year….

being good at your job here only allows you to keep your job. being marginal or worse than average at your job qualifies you to be promoted to be moved out of the way to develop more people to support the middle that provides no value and only takes and cheerleads.

As already noted, this position and the ones for the CAs and CSs are for retirees that want to come back for 6-9 mo or until no longer needed to help fill gaps in staffing. But since none of you want to be TMs anyway why does it matter if they are recruiting outside the company?

The short of it? They need someone who is moldable and easily manipulated. Good luck promoting from within when the vast majority of CAs and CSs have seen enough bile and bu-----t spewed from managements mouth to last a lifetime and therefore most likely have zero interest in joining that debacle of a sh-t show society.

I can make more as a CS than as a TM, and I won't have to manage id--ts for less money. That's why they aren't able to promote from within - nobody wants what they're offering.

I was not aware we are attempting to recruit externals for Claim TM roles. Where are you seeing this? The salary range was updated after only moving 1% in the last five years. They must be anticipating an exodus.

I’m wondering why the jobs are marked “Limited Tenure”. That’s kinda strange, like the need for CA, CS, TM, and Estimatics jobs are temporary?

Nobody that I know that could do it are even trying. Money is money don’t get me wrong. I’ve found nobody smart cares to be micromanaged. It sounds exhausting to micromanage, and get blamed for problems beyond your control in a smaller network. You’re better of just refining a skill and doubling your pay.
