If you get the subscription for prognostics, OnStar will tell you if this is about to happen:

20 bucks to open it.
100 bucks to close it.
They'll probably charge you a subscription to use it.
20 bucks a month if you want to be able to open the awning.
Another 20 bucks a month if you want to be able to close it.

No. The system would use a variety of sensors, radar, software and satellite data.
It is ludicrous. An insanely expensive waste of time and money but what do you expect?
So will an app be needed to deploy the awning?

I have found the patent interest at GM is both a racket and very political. Who gets credit, who gets added, who gets paid. Some ideas are dismissed and then co-opted.
Seriously... This is what we spend patent money on?
We apply for many patents, most of which are never used.
Don't get your pa-ties twisted.
I'm surprised this one made it to press. I wonder if it was leaked on purpose to generate buzz?
