In 2023 when they started the voluntary separations it was the second time in five years I was faced with that. I saw how they were running the show, they were replacing older leaders with inexperienced leaders. They were letting the young new people stay at GTC and continued to send the veterans out to do the work at the plants. The young ones were not learning how to operate in the field.
I left and worked at a supplier for a year then retired.
I was fortunate. I wish those that were released safe journeys but GM I see them reaping what they’ve sown. They will survive and they will do it on the backs of those they let go. Sad

I'm all about efficiency. The OEMs and tiers made the all in gamble to go with EV and AV, when most of the world knew that wouldn't work as a reliable revenue stream. Now we are seeing the results of that gamble.

It's unfortunate the workers are feeling the results of those bad decisions.

"I'm actually happy to read the pain involved at GM."
"the world will continue on without them"

Tens of thousands of people would lose their jobs.
Then tens of thousands more would lose their jobs at suppliers.
If this makes you happy, you are one sick individual.
If I were you, I wouldn't share this sick fantasy with anyone IRL. You are likely to get your --- beat.

I'm actually happy to read the pain involved at GM. GM itself, has caused numerous pain among those that gave their all over a career, aka the replaceable. Salaried, treated one way. Contract, treated as second class citizens. I challenge anyone to state otherwise, against someone that has lived it across two decades.

In 2008/9 or so, I sat on the second level podium/VEC when Wagner spewed his "We aren't going bankrupt" speech. I said we'll be bankrupt in six month. I was wrong, it was nine. If you want to know the business of GM, who best to inform than those that work in the trenches and see first hand.

GM, like most OEMs, are one of many relevant, until they aren't.

"Name the companies that are bigger and better in Detroit than General Motors"
This is the wrong question to ask. Name the important companies instead.

Those that serve as tier one, likely service all OEM. Should an OEM disappear, no one really notices or care due to diversity. However, should that tier one service everyone, should they disappear, it's noticeable. Aptiv for example, formerly Delphi, that company is so large that many OEM's have designated them as supplier of choice, work on our sh*t.

No one cares about the OEM. Behind the scenes, no one knows about the tiers. If an OEM disappears, the world barely cares. If a Tier as large as Delphi/Aptiv disappears, the world goes haywire for a time, until it can all be reassigned to the less desirables in manufacturing.

I'm waiting for an OEM to fold. And then the world will continue on without them, with little tragedy.

"Where???"

No one will EVER have an answer for that, even though it's parroted all of the time.
Because "bigger and better out there and right here in Detroit" is a huge lie.
I don't care if you are talking about IT, manufacturing or engineering.
The people that go on here saying that, and also "get out while you can" are literally operating out of soul-eating dark energy.

If anyone here disagrees, here is the challenge. Name the companies that are bigger and better in Detroit than General Motors.
I'll wait.
And wait.
And wait.

Very true. Been browsing job postings a bit lately and GM doesn’t pay higher than others like they use to. Could get a nice bump in total pay by leaving but might wait this out because imo storm clouds are starting to gather. Like you said, I’ll bet the atmosphere would be much better elsewhere too.

"Hiring in California will level up the company's performance. We'll do better with better employees."

Omg...such a troll post and a d-mb take if it isn't parody. Right...because only people in Cali know how to write software right? Id!0t...make sure to buy them their "pods" and the "safe places" they need. Juice bars and such. You know these creatives are delicate flowers and they can't be told what to do. Much better code gets written that way of you just let the dreamers dream right? LOL

Man there are a lot of ignorant, stupid people on this thread. I only hope they are trolls and don't go through life THIS stupid.

Low performers? California? Congrats on some of the d-mbest things I have read. Ever.

Who gets let go are the ones who don't kiss a$$ to their managers. I saw if for myself when I worked there.

GM let me go in 2009 and they did me a real favor. I'm in a better job with better benefits and pay and coworkers.

If you are affected by the layoffs, my heart goes out to you. But know there is bigger and better out there and right here in Detroit.

Did she really say this? If so, WOW.

@ujw+1vvrIL2E
"Guess there must be a lot of low performers there."
Instant karma is gonna get you.

All while at record share prices and profits. It’s never enough for the BOD and Wall Street. And I’m all for making profits and company growth but when you start eating yourself from within, imo, it’s a race to the bottom
