So first I was listening to the CEO office hours the other day, the CEO said IBM hires anywhere from 40K to 60K people a year!!! Wow, really?!? How many layoffs are required to achieve that hiring number and still achieve a reduction of total number of employees to cut costs since revenues are still not growing??
So IBM is hiring in CC&S at least, they want really experienced people starting at Band 7.
You will probably start at 100K, who is interested?
I wonder if that is the code for "let's get rid of the older generation workers, rebrand the job title, and let's hire younger workforce?"
There are plenty of other growing (non top tier) companies that have less rigorous interviews and have a good culture. They have to try harder to retain talent.
They still pay more than most companies I've interviewed with. The fact that they aren't a top tier massively profitable huge gigantic market cap business.. Who cares? Good luck getting hired at Google or Facebook. Anybody told these people that post all the time in here what the odds are? Not good. The odds of landing a way better job are slim. IBM isn't great but people over exaggerate the ish out of things on here. Brace for downvotes!

You get what you pay for. Obviously these employees can’t get a better paying job.
So sad - IBM used to only hire the best and brightest.
You can pay less when you are shrinking your potential customer install base. IBM is transitioning from being all things to all customers (legacy), to focusing on cloud engagements to enterprise customers. That’s a much smaller more focused customer set. Most likely the partners will pick up everything else. The result of the transition to enterprise, is a much smaller IBM revenue and manpower wise. Please remember Cloud engagement is defined by each company individually Google defines cloud differently vs Microsoft, vs Amazon. IBM’s definition is mainframe/enterprise centric, and they are pursuing that definition at the expense the rest of legacy IBM
This is IBM's problem. They want to cap developer pay around 100k. They'll hire at b6/7 and keep them at that for 5-6 years.
They haven't updated their salary levels to match market pay in 2021. People working here for 3-5 years are so underpaid, they don't even know or they just want to coast.
Sounds like IBM hires new people who can’t and / or don’t want to get hired elsewhere.

So then logical conclusion is the hiring is mostly offshore.

Its true ... most hiring is Band 6/7 to do a Band 8/9 job.
When the teams complain to the execs, they say just hire overseas for the higher levels.
When was the last time IBM did anything that made sense?
I would definitely not apply. 100K is pocket change when you have experience.
